Factory LSD Oil?
Just picked up a GSR engine and tranny with a factory LSD. I was wondering what oil to use in the tranny? Ive heard that only the Honda oil will work but any insight would be great.

There is a HUGE difference btwn Honda MTF and 5w30. The weight is about the same, but the forumlas isn't.
Either run Honda MTF or GM Synchromesh cannot go wrong with either of those.

I read up on some stuff on http://www.bobistheoilguy.com and they did a comparison on HondaMTF and 5w30 there is a HUGE difference.
I'd pull the link but I really dont want to sift through all their archives. It's there, though. I think you just have to dig a bit.

My main concern is with how the oil will affect the LSD. I have been told that I can only use the Honda or Acura oil to get good performance out of the diff. Will different oil viscosity change the diff action and the lifetime expectancy ex.

yes it will. That is why you should use only Honda MTF or GM Synchromesh.

ugh, I cant find much on it. I hate UBB.
here's the link to the VOA of HondaMTF. I think if you compare the two you'll notice a difference.

Here is the link to the UOA of HondaMTF. Pretty good results for 21K miles

And reading up I refresh my memory on this. The correct weight for an oil based tranny fluid is 10w40 or equivilant in weight.

Yeah use Honda MTF or GM SM, or Redline MTL (a 10w30 fluid). Do not use motor oil, ESPECIALLY synthetic motor oil. Synthetic is far too slick for use in a tranny, which relies on friction for proper synchro and LSD operation.
