Default 115K tranny service.

Input bearing **** the bed a couple thousand miles ago. Pulled it apart this weekend to find:

I'm just curious when anyone else has experienced said failure.

Len hooked me up with parts. Thanks.

so you were driving on that for a few thousand miles?

did the tranny magnet grab the loose parts or did they go destroying other parts in the tranny?

6 or 7k. The ball bearing cage was chewed up and obviously spit throughout the tranny internals. what do you exactly mean by "other parts"?

i mean, loose metal flying around transmission while gears are in motion.... i would imagine those pieces would chew up other tranny internals...

do you have any pics of the main/countershaft w/ gears?

i recently had that same bearing... (looks like the main shaft bearing at one of the ends) crap out on me....why? who knows...~20k miles of easy driving... maybe its the honda bond or reassembly that caused it to crap out.

youre seem to be really scuffed up though. the "cage" around the bearings on mine is still pretty decent. NTN and CC JAPAN are still legible.

so what are signs of bad bearing? i had issues with noise/rattle due to release bearing.. replaced release bearing and solved that problem..

but now my transmission sounds louder at times when in neutral, and noise goes away when clutch pressed in.. - it sounds like a/c rattle and its usually louder with a/c on.. i thought it was due to my unsprung clutch/light flywheel.. any opinions?

Exact same problem I have. The dealership replaced all the ball bearings in the tranny and the problem actually got a tiny bit worst. I'm now waiting on the main shaft assembly replacement under warranty.

again, you imagine incorrectly. case hardened gears are not going to care about a little schard of steel. The big issue is all this debris clogging up the oiling holes in both the countershaft and mainshaft. thus, a complete tear down and clean/rebuild is necessary. I bought excess parts... so, leftovers could be used on the tranny for the mini. Your parts list will vary. At minimum, i would suggest replacing the input bearing, the seal behind the input bearing, and the other big ball bearing on the end of the mainshaft.

That's all folks.

I experienced the same failure this year as well (98 #801) at ~80K. It had been getting progressively noisier and finally got loud enough I had to pull it. Only had the two bearings on the mainshaft replaced, but in hindsight should have down the synchros too (since it was open) even though they're working fine.

Mine main shaft bearing even looked a little worse than yours.

I'm at 136K miles now, about 10 K since boost.

Already looking for upgrades to boost system and clutch (something more than ACT Extreme and Hybrid disc).

D -- drop me a line next time you're back for the holidays or something.
