Default High compression on a FI motor (drag motor)

Would high compression with a turbo be a good way to produce some power? how can i go about making it reliable? Sleeves? would 11:1 be too high? (on a LS motor) how much boost can i push with that compression, need help on this im tryin to build a good drag motor Thanks

if you have to ask this question, then you probably would be a poor candidate for a high compression turbo motor. they do make GREAT power, but with a VERY small window for mistakes. only the very experienced in computerized engine management need apply.

exactly... dont do it until u learn more... ull regret it if u do... and just to let u know... there are people running on the streets with 11.5:1 and turbo

Well thats why im askin what i need to do and know to do this right now im runnin a LS with crower rods and 8.5:1 Je's with a mild head runnin 9 psi i hit 13.6's and now im goin full drag and i wanna redo the motor ( i built it the first time) soo what kinda boost can i run with a high compression motor? what do i need to look at ? whats a good compression to go with i notices Je's make a 10.5:1 is that good or should i go higher? im tryin to get all the info i can thanks

I would first look into a better breathing head. The LS head is good, but without TREMENDOUS porting, that'll probably be a bottleneck in the future when you run into higher boost levels. You could go LS/VTEC and get some hp just from that.

Or else, 10.5:1 Cr would probably be on the edge I would run on any turbo application. But you'll have to REALLY keep an eye on detonation. Run it a bit richer to keep it on the safe side. And I would definitely run STRICTLY race gas, since this is a full drag car anyways.

I keep hearing "go LS/VTEC" but why i think i can make power out of this LS, in not a big VTEC fan soo im just tryin to make a good, strong, and powerfull LS. You gotta love the torque. Id go B20 before id go vtec. JE makes pistons now for the B20s . is the CROWER teg a LS all motor? or turbo?

VTEC heads are more efficient. You can have identical buildups , the VTEC will make 40-50 more hp every time.

I run 11:1 wiht speed pro 82mm in gsr it doest have any problems with sleeved blcok. Might blow the head off before you blow anything else up.

I ran 11:1 cr (euro-spec ITR) @ 5.5psi boost for over 1 year now. Never had one problem!

You can use the LS head, but you'll have to do excessive porting, buy cams, valve springs, and put oversize valves in it to make it flow like a VTEC head.

I don't see why you would want to do such a thing. Forced induction essentially raises your compression ratio since it is packing boost in there. Raising the compression ratio through pistons will just take away area for packing air. Having less area when the mixture is compressed will also heat the mixture and make it much more prone to detonation. If it's an all out race car, then why don't you keep 8.5:1 and run a bigger turbo?

I say run lower compression and just turn up the boost. You won't get as much hp by putting high-compression pistons in your ride, then you would turning up the boost another 5psi
