Where can I get official documentation of Type R production numbers?
As the title says, i'm looking for official documentation that says how many type r's were produced in one year. I'm working on something that will benefit all R owners, but I rather not say right now untill my idea works. However it required offical documentation from Honda to state the amount of R's that were produced in a certain production year(ex. 1997, Xnumber, 1998 X number, 2000 X number and so on.)
I'm not trying to do something shady with this information, I want to figure something out that will help some of us out. I have discussed it with some guys on this board, but I don't want to hype anything up until I have some hard proof or I have completed it.
Any help would be appreciated!

good luck, people have been trying to get documentation from Honda for years
the only documentation i have seen is the pic of a letter from Honda to someone about how many 97's there were - or maybe it was 98's?

I tried to get as much info on this topic as I could. I gathered a good deal of info regarding production numbers, correlation between car # and engine #, and a bunch of other info too.
There were close to 50 responses, but only a small handful were helpful. The rest were just some smart *** quips about the numbering system. I gave up. It's more fun to drive than decipher.

I started working in Acura sales back in June. I asked my District Sales Manager to get me numbers for 2000 and 2001.
Coming from Karl Fischer, District Sales Manager 5A, Acura Division
In 2000, they brought 1350 into the US for sale.
In 2001, they brought 1156 in for sale.
I might be able to get written confirmation.

not sure how that could be right- unless they skipped numbers, there are 2000 model ITR's numbered up into the 1500's on ITRCA and the highest number on there in 2001 is 1162, which is closer to the 1156 number. Though, there is only a small fraction of ITR owners registered on ITRCA. It would really be nice if someone would make a sticky in this forum encouraging people to register their car numbers on ITRCA.

Just think of how many of the 5000 are either stolen, chopped up or sitting in a lake somewhere.

I'm pretty sure no one's got the numbering scheme figured out, but maybe they sent a certain amount of console badges to the US total, but split them up between Canada? Save $$ on production or something.
Incorrect, there are duplicate numbers in Canada. In other words my R is 01-0454, but in Canada there is probably some dude with the same number. Except his is in CW most likely.
I've called Acura Client Services before. The first time I spoke with them, they provided an address to mail my Production # question to and said someone would respond within a couple weeks identifying the number of ITR's produced by year in the US.
I of course, lost the address, called back a month lat and at that point in time they said noone could help me and there was no place I could send my question to and noone who could answer it. Maybe I just called on the wrong day the second time, I don't know.

I would really like to know this also. I think that if we could make a real form of documentation about the overall #'s of them, it would be a significant boost to the resale/overall value of the vehicle. A significant downside however would come in the increase of insurance rates due to the limited #'s of our vehicles.

I just bought my 97 ITR and the guy I bought it off of said that there was 318 made for the US and 182 made for Canada. Mine is #182
There were suppose to be 700 itrs imported to North America back in 97. (500 to the US and 200 to Canada) Due to either production or emission problems only five hundred made it over. 318 to the US and 160 to Canada. A few were test mules for the magazine testing as well for the Acura racing program.
Most Acura dealers were suppose to get 2 itrs but it didn't work out that way. The majority of them only got 1 with the sales leaders getting 2. A lot of people with early down payments didn't get cars at all and had to wait for the 98s. People that had good contracts still had to wait untill late July for delivery.

From what I've heard, in 2000 there were only like 150 PY R available here, and they were only sold for one year....I guess im lucky to have one!

You heard wrong. In 2000 there were around 1500 ITR sold here, roughly equally split between PY and black. The following year there were another 1500 sold, with slightly more PY than black (due to greater demand for the PY in 2000).
