I believe the DRAG turbos are T04E/T3.

Compressor
T04E 46 Trim

Exhaust
T3 .63 AR Stage 2 turbine

Hope this helps.

That is pretty much exactly what I got on my GSR kit.

(ONly thing not TOTALLY sure of is the turbine trim... didn't know enough back then to tell... It's been two years since I turboed!)

This is correct!

You guys actually mean they have the exact same specs on all their kits. Can one set of turbo specs really work good enough on all their kits to justify not doing the research to find the "perfect" combination for each motor. Just seems like a turbo for a 100hp d series motor would be different than a nice 200hp b or h motor.

second question-are the specs the same for the gen2 kits and the gen3 kits?

SirKid,

The T04E will only die out on you top end if you have a small exhaust housing. Generally, cars with high rev limits dont like small exhaust housings. Example: GSR w/ T04E/T3 .63 will produce higher hp numbers in higher rpm band than a T04E/T3 .48.

I believe that the b16 and the h22 kits have to4b compressors, not the to4e. And as for the b18b and the dseries ??? Hell if I know.

to Ben.

To SiKid.. Rob was right. .46 wont "die out" until 400whp. If you look in Sport Compact car.... that Monster Miata in there. He has a .46. I have seen it with MY OWN EYES. IT is the exhaust housing being to restrictive that will cut into top-end. Rob hit it right on the

OK now here's a fun one - I'm looking to swap the hot side of my turbo - right now it's a T3-0.48 Stage 1

Easy solution is to just get a 0.63 housing and go from there...

How much better would it be to go stage 3 and replace the whole hot side? Enough to justify the additional cost and effort?

You basically talking about a turbo rebuild there. The whole assembly will have to be taken apart.. then once that is apart, replacing all seals is a must. I'd say stick with the Stage 1 and get the.63 housing. Yes, there are a few trade offs: PROs ~ You will lag less than Stage 3. CONs ~ You might not produce as much top end hp as a Stage 3.. but we're not talking massive amounts of HP.

Thanks rob, I think that's what I'm going to do... I can do the housing for $125 and I know it's an easy job once I drop the turbo off, and I've been meaning to get my manifold off for some porting and cleanup work anyway (and to see if I can fix some cracks!) so that sounds like the solution for me.

Great idea on porting the manifold. Just make sure the manifold side openings are just a little larger than the gasket's opening. This will help fight reversion.

It's particularly a good idea if you look at my manifold - I bought it used and kept it for lack of funds; it looks like it was welded by a 3 year old on acid. The interior is all distorted with sharp edges sticking out for no apparent reason... been meaning to grind it out but just haven't had time since the turbo install... and have a wedding coming up so I haven't had a lot of free weekends to drop my exhaust hardware off. Somehow fiancee doesn't think car is a "priority" with a wedding in 2 1/2 weeks... crazy women.

I would keep the Stage1 too. Ask Arturbo what it cost to get a new shaft for his stage3. The turbine shaft is basically the whole expense of the turbo. IT is about $250 for the turbine shaft alone. The center housing is like a whole $75.

So if you wanted to change to a Stage3 it would probably cost you around $400.

UGh.... DITCH that .48 on the Stage1 (stock) tho. Yuck.

ok... my exhaust housing reads .63 and the compressor says a/r .60. What does this all mean? How does my turbo measure up to a turbo that comes in a B18 DRAG kit?

Thanks,
Reid

You must have a straight T3.. with a 60 trim compressor and a .63 exhaust housing. This turbo is much smaller than the T04E 54/ T3 that the DRAG comes with. But it spools much faster probably. when do you get boost?
