Default Dual Point "restrictor plate" in intake

What's up with that little plate inside the intake manifold (before the throttle body) on the dual point b15b2? Has anyone tried removing it to see if the car makes any more power?

the lil black restrictor plate or the bronze colored one under the dpfi cover. you can remove both and get a very small gain.

Assuming a Dx. I was referring to the bronze colored plate under the dpfi cover.

Does the Dx have the other plate?

I removed everything between the filter and the thorottle body. There is a secondary vacumm actuated butterfly I removed that too. I don't know what they do, and most of the gain was more noise thatn anything. Just wait till this weekend and we'll do your MPFI swap.

I've tried that before, if anything there was a small psychological gain .

just FYI, the civic STD hatch has a similar set up but it is even more restrictive. there is a plate sandwiched between the throttle body and intake manifold that is very restrictive and can be replaced with the DX one, and also, there is a primary butterfly that, on the DX, opens all the way with the throttle, while on the STD it only opens about 1/4 of the way. swapping out both of these parts as well as swapping the pm9 ECu with a DX pm5 wil lbasically give you a DX engine... from 70hp to 92.. that is quite a jump :D

i believe the exhaust setup is alittle different on the DX as well, which would give it more HP, the cat on the std, is located right under the exhaust manifold(the turbo looking one) where as the DX has a 4-1 manifold and the cat is located under the car?.. i think the exhaust piping is smaller on the std as well..

This is not true. Unless you use the DX cam you need to stay away from the DX ECU. We tried two different DX ECUs in my Standard on the dyno and they both made the car run like ****. Peak HP was the same, but there was 5 more HP low and midrange with the stock standard ECU.

To get the extra HP from the standard you need the cam, intake restrictor, and ECU from the DX. These should be easily available and dirt cheap.

Would I gain gas mileage by removing this brass plate? That's all I'm really concerned with in my 4dr DX.

Heres mine.

I removed that brass plate hoping to see an increase in MPG... I'm not sure if it worked though.

I'm pretty sure all the stuff that is there is to help gas mileage...removing it will probably net you a loss in mileage.

Really? I figured more airflow = better gas mileage.. If what you said is in fact true, i'll put it back in.

Yeah I think it is less airflow = less gas to have to add to get the right ratios...

Really... I've always thought it to be the other way around. K&N advertises MPG gain with their filters, and they flow a hell of a lot better than a stock filter.. and when stock filters get clogged, MPG goes down. This is why I figured more airflow = more MPG.
