NEED HELP FOR SCHOOL PROJECT
Ok i'm not sure where to put tis but i figure since the project car is a 91 civic hatch i'd start here. Ok like the topic says. I need help with my school project car. I go to school at Linclon Tech in N.E Philly. We were just given a 91 civic dx that our teachers want us to basically hook up for the school as an extra bounce type deal. We can basicaly do anything to it as long as it has keeps the same motor so swaps are out the question. We just have to take this 70 hp car and build it to around 105 to the wheels or better. its gonna be broken down to engine body suspension emmissions and electronics. it needs to stay street legal as in passing emission and inspection. we are gonna have a basic budget of about $200 a month gove or take a couple dollers. I wanted to know if there were any people willing to sponser us in any way. Since we have a lot of people on here that own shops or build there own parts i figured maybe giving us big discounts on parts or building parts for us or money. They want to use this car in there new commercials because this is gonna be a new program that they will add to the classes. It will be called bolt on performance so any help would be appreciated. Of course any one that helps will be noted and we will have no problems with putting your name on the car as advertisment and putting you in any article in regards to help and sponser ship. THis was all started today so if any one doesn't beleive me i could set up a meeting with our staff or something for proof. Any insight on what we should do or get would be very helpful also. so you guys can help us just by giving us ideas. Its a 91 dx d15. we do have 2 spare motors in case we blow the original. so its totaly up to us we could do na spray or turbo if we wish we just need to bring up these ideas and some facts to back up or reasoning for what ever we do. I know there were some one her that made some crazy custom equal length headers that were supposed to make good # but looked wierd. If some one could get me set or let me know were to go for them that would be a good start. Sorry this is all jamed in her but i am writing this at work and keep having to go on and off be cause i work on the phones. please any response is welcomed and appreciated.

First off Lincoln Tech sucks... I went there and learned more in a month of actually working in the garage than I did at that stupid school...
having said that, What about a mini me? The block will be the same Just a different head... its all about the head and cam(s)... You could hit your goal in one weeks budget...

Another note, the dx motor is 92hp, not 70. MPFI swap should be your first priority, can be done for under 200 easy. Then spray it, 50 shot dry and badda bing.

50 shot wont work on the street, why not do D16Z6 head(mini-me), P&P(very cheap assuming you have a die grinder and know what you're doing), cam, high comp, bla bla bla?
Engine
I would get a 88 CRX Si head, complete intake manifold, resistor box, distributor, ECU.
1) You don't have to worry about the extra wiring for VTEC
2) I recommend the 88 Si cause the cam is different than the 89-91
then add header, cat-back exhaust (2.25 pipe), cold air intake, ground wiring kit
Body
EF9 front end conversion
Suspension
Tokico HP Suspension Kit
front upper strut bar
rear lower tie bar
sway bar set
Electronics
A'PEXi Super AFC Digital Controller
EF9 gauge cluster
Auto Meter Phantom White Speedometer
Just my $.02
BTW, you 1.5 rods probably won't hold a 50 shot.

the **** are you talking about with the new front end and auto meter tach?.....just throw the money in to the motor and not on sily "look pretty" ****....anyways, i say if its got to be the EXACT same motor.....your haired......get custom **** like header, pistons and rods. if you want electronics get the Vafc by APEX'i not the superAFC like fucktard said....you dont need that **** for a godamn DX, and as far as suspention goes, get KYB AGX's and Skunk2 coil overs. if you stil need more pwer, get a turbo KIT with the APEX'i boost gauge....but thats just me and my "no one wiill notice how pretty your car is if you go fast" attitude....
200 bucks a month?? what kind of project is that. do u plan on buying somethin then take a whole month to install it? haha

V-AFC for non-vtec makes a lot of sense(hence the V in V-AFC), if you're gonna call other people a fucktard then don't be a ******* dumbass yourself, as far as the 'look pretty ****' it sounds to me like this car needs to do more then go fast if its gonna be in ads and magazines, while I agree the engine should be the priority, maybe the look pretty **** is not a bad idea, he is by no means 'haired' w/ that motor either, it has plenty of potential, and while I was thinking about it another thought came to mind, strengthen the block(pistons, rods, rod bolts, etc) then do the DSM turbo on an HX manifold, w/ an adaptor plate, DSM sidemount(or aftermarket front mount) IC, DSM injectors, bla bla bla, turbocharged, and well over your goal for horsepower for close to 1000 bucks most likely
i love triumph he's great<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by krustindumm »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Oh yeah, paragraphs own you and 91 Civic Dx's are cool....

Say you have 4-5 months to pull this off.
Month 1- MPFI swap 90ish HP to about 100 (at thte crank) ECU, dizzy, IM w/ injectors....$100-$200
Month 2- Pacsetter exhaust (cheaper than the dynomax/custom piping) $200 or cheaper, shipped to your door
Month 3- Header (used, or chikara header) $129 or $189 depending on which one you want
Month 4- DIY intake, $60 tops including filter (you can look into it in the archives) and a E-bay High flow cat $60-$100
Month 5- Exospeed cam $189
All of that should be in budget for each month, and should put you well over 105 HP.

pff, mpfi swap and spray should easily get you there. My stock si motor made 110 whp with exhaust. So you're just an mpfi swap (maybe an si cam?) away. Spray will easily get you there.

1) I said "speedometer" cause i mentioned JDM cluster
2) The car is based on engine, body , suspension, etc.......read his post again!
3) I said AFC cause I choose non-VTEC head swap, not V-AFC.......read my post again!
4) The suspension kit I mentioned cost $330 (cheaper), & rides better than what you proposed.
5) A turbo on that engine would say goodbye to the rods.
...and if their goal is only 105hp+, my suggestions are fine. Remember, we're giving him our opinions and ideas.

1. Buy a used D-16 Y-7 (200.00 for a running one if you look hard enough)
2. Get a D-16 Y-8 intake manifold, 100.00 with TB and injectors
3. Get a cam from http://www.deltacam.com, 65.00
4. Run 1989-1990 Integra pistons (D-16 A-1, gives roughly 12.5 compression) 140.00 for new pistons, rings, and wrist pins
5. Find the ECU and wiring harness off somebody who just did a swap
6. Use a D-16 Y-8 exhaust manifold
That setup will put you at roughly 140WHp with a little head work. On 200.00 a month you cant afford trick custom ****, unless you want to wait for months dto buy it.

The rods that snapped on a 60 shot from a prior project car.

Ours was just bone stock interals. Wasn't a loss though, just made a swap come faster.
