Default Pro Drive Final gear

I recently had a conversation with Vince at Prodrive and I was talking to him about use of their final drive in the Prelude trannies. I was told that the way the ring gear was cut, could cause breakage under a hard launch such as at the dragstrip. He told me that the gear was primarily intended for road racing. There is a possibility that they may redesign the product to be used in a drag racing application, however they are unsure of what kind of demand there is for the product. Basically, I am trying to gather some information from people who may be interested in this product for use at the dragstip. Anyone interested? I need 3 or 4 people interested in purchasing this product in order for Prodrive to redesign what they currently have. Please let me know.

As far as I can tell, the specs will be the same as they currently are, A 4.7 FD, but with either a stronger material or a differently cut gear pitch. Retail price on their website is $1250.00

makes the tranny gearing much shorter. the final drive on the h22 5 spd is 4.266.

with a 4.7 final drive you'd basically accelerate faster and lose top speed. rev's would increase across the board, e.g. cruising at 80 m/h = 4K on tac. with a 4.7 final drive you'd prob be closer to 5K rpm (forgive me for not wanting to do the math)

i would be interested in a happy medium between 4.26 and 4.7, let's say a 4.5 FD. but i can't afford a 1200 tranny piece + 200 labor to install.

tell your boy over there to make me something to allow me to hit 210mph at 8500rpm. Then we'll talk.

get a quaife.

and yes, it would be hard to daily drive with a 4.7 FD unless you've got a lifetime supply of free gas.

OR...... you could waste 2 weeks of your life screwing around a CNC machine and make some like I did......well i have 3 (1,2,3) same ratio for now, only difference in mine is that they're thicker, and 4/5 are thinner, took a lil "work" to make them fit the tranny, but it rolls throught all 5 fine when atttached to a small electric motor, a real test remains to be seen..... if all goes well i would CONSIDER making a few more for someone with some pacience

I kinda figured pro-drive to be the 1st to jump on this whole tranny thing too, someone stands to make a lot of money if they can make a h-series that takes abuse, even more money w/ a b-series, for those hot rod class cars that break them every 4 runs

EDIT:: i can post pics of the drawings, got too excited and put the trans together already, and i'll be damned if i take it apart to take a picture

hm... you know, if you could eliminate that H22 synchro problem then you'd be the most popular Prelude guy in existance. Hell, I'd buy you a lap dance at a strip club for THAT.

titanium and beer can pop tops.

Hell, if I knew how to make our synchros not suck... I'D do something about it. lol

All I know is if someone doesn't make bullet proof H series trannies soon, I personally might exhaust the supply here in the US myself.

How about when this thread gets big enough, we'll link it to Pro Drive to see what they think?

good idea...

now to Prodrive:
WE WANT BULLET PROOF TRANNIES!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not paying Honda $2500 for a new tranny that's just gonna grind eventually.
And I'm tired of buying used ones that DO grind.

Houseman can make you a custom final drive if you have the $$. I went with a 4.71 from him.

4.7 FD would be a nice offset to some larger slicks or for an h22 w/ a peaky powerband. most drag racers dont start getting into the 4.7 FD until they are running 25"+ slicks.

I believe new, the Houseman final drive was $1500. I bought the tranny used with the 4.71 Houseman final drive and Quaife already installed for $1200.
