Speedvision Channel...is it going to be NASCAR channel??? New Info
Here is an eMail I receive this morning. I CANNOT verify it's validity, but in any case it looks like there is some hope!!!

Here's some second hand info that I got from the Open Track Digest. I
can't confirm it's validity but I'll take good news where I can get it!

[From the guy who organized the online petition sent to Speedvision after
rumors circulated about FOX converting the channel to an "all NASCAR, all
the time" station.]
Comrades, the time has come for rejoicing!
Well, perhaps not rejoicing. But at least a big sigh of relief. Yesterday I
had the opportunity to speak with Jim Liberatore, the new President of
Speedvision. Mr. Liberatore assured me that THE THREAT OF AN ALL-NASCAR
LINEUP ON SPEEDVISION NO LONGER EXISTS! There will, of course, be changes
in the lineup. The lowest-rated programs on the channel will have to find
new homes, to make room for an increase in NASCAR programming. But he has
also said that the network is firmly committed to continuing live coverage
of Formula 1, premier sports car/endurance series like ALMS and Grand-Am,
as well as the enduro Grand Slam (Daytona, Sebring, LeMans and the Road
America Petit LeMans. They will also be adding the CART/Fedex series to
their line-up, in conjunction with CBS.
Based on ratings and the massive response to the petition, I would be very
suprised if Rally and Superbike coverage were not also maintained.
There _may_ be a name change, though. Be on the lookout for this
development early next year, if it occurs.
Mr. Liberatore did make a request, which I am in good faith attempting to
fullfill. Speedvision will be compiling a database of the e-mail addresses
of their veiwers, and the areas of motorsport in which they are interested.
Those who CHOOSE to be included will recieve weekly programming schedules
highlighting the series they have expressed interest in. This is simply an
offer I pass along to you, and I neither encourage or discourage you to
join. If you would like to be included, though, let me know, and I will
pass your e-mail along to Mr. Libratore. I absolutely WILL NOT share your
addresses without your explicit consent, just as I have not shared them
with anyone else recieving this message.
Thank you all for your support and advice regarding the petition. There are
some of you who I neglected to respond to in a timely manner, due to the
massive amount of interest this effort has created. For this I apologize,
and I hope you will not think poorly of me.
Once again, thank you all. I think we have won a major victory. The
compromise being presented is not a perfect one, but such is the nature of
compromise. I personally feel this compromise, if it is held by
Speedvision's new top-level management, is an acceptable one. But it is
important to remain vigilant and hold them to their word.
Take care, and thanks again.
