Tire Recommendations
I did a search and couldn't get a specific question answered.
I am in need of new tires.
My previous tires have been OEM, 2 sets of Dunlop SP 8000, and finally falken azensis's.
I am looking at a good all around tire for the south. Something that is responsive in rain but rocks on dry pavement. Good cornering is a must!
These are the two I am looking at. Yoko avs es100 or kumho ecsta supra 712's.
I am leaning toward the yokes because of the information I am getting on tirerack.com.
Any recommendations?

I think you understand that your priorities include wet weather performance, and probably price. Many folks here think mostly in terms of dry performance and recommend the Falken Azenis Sport. Other tires that offer excellent performance, dry or wet, are the Bridgestone S-03 or the OEM tire, the Bridgestone RE010, but both are considerably more expensive.
The Yokohama ES100 that you mention is an excellent tire for those who are looking for very good performance on both dry and wet roads, at a bargain price. I would take it over the Kumho you mention. I have heard from the Tire Rack folks that the ES100 is really awesome, much better than almost anything short of the S-03 or similarly-priced tires.
The ES100 is available in the ITR stock size of 195/55-15, but it is back ordered and you can expect to wait a month or two from the time you order them. My friends at the Tire Rack tell me that this size has been an unexpectedly hot seller, and as soon as they get a shipment, they send them all out, so they continue to be on back order. If you want the stock size, the sooner you order the better. There are certain advantages of the stock size over 205/50-15 (which seems to be more readily available) - including narrower tread for better wet performance, less bulging of the sidewall, more accurate speedo (I think the 205/50-15 is smaller by 1.6 percent), lower price ($56 vs $72), etc.
I am currently waiting for a set of ES100 in 195/55-15 that I have ordered for my '94 GS-R (GF's car), using exactly the same priorities that you have (she wants something good in the rain, but she likes good cornering too). $56/tire, woo hoo!

P.S. There's a test on the Tire Rack website among the Yokohama ES100, the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712, and the Sumitomo HTR Z II. The ES100 beat the others in almost every category, often by a substantial margin.
thanks for the info. I'm not sure if I want oem size or 205/50's which is what I've had in the previous tires. My azensis are about shot and wondering if there was a better tire out around the same price.
JDM Advan Neovas.
That is what I run, Awsome handling and cornering, much better than the last 2 sets of Azenis i have had. Have a few customers here on HT that hare more than happy with these tires as well. However keep in mind they are a 'JDM' tire, meaning no DOT approval, and NO marked treadware, but ive had them on a few months with many spirited drives up the canyons (every sunday morning) still no sign of chunking, treadloss or anything.

I don't really want good wet performance. I just want a tire that I am not scared to drive in rain. I don't drive stupid in the rain, but I do want to get to where I'm going. My azensis are very touchy in rain. Especially hydroplaining situations. I don't remember how they were when they were somewhat new, but it may be because they are worn down to the point they need replaced. I think I have about 5K left on them. I wish I knew how many miles I got on them. If I were a guessing man I would say I got about 15K on them now. They are beginning to slide some and it they don't make me feel as confident on fast cornering as they used to. It may be me though.
This is such a little decision to make. Oh well.
Thanks everyone.

i'll recommend tire and wheels.. 15x7 with kumho mx 205/50-15.. compare kumho mx to s-03.. just much cheaper..
j00 want good cornering out of street tires.. get wider wheel.

Yokohama ES100 are a great street tire for wet and dry combos. They actual displace some water (compared to my Toyo RA-1s). For reference, I was not really impressed with the Bridgestones that came on the ITR.
I'm running the 215/45ZR16's on a 16x7 (the JDM Honda ITR wheel). I'm very happy with this combo. Very square sidewalls, much better response. Get ready for some upper control arm clearance problems in the rear. I had to remove the clip on slyle wheel weights to clear the UCA. No kidding, it is that tight.

If you call american tire co or american tire depot they can get you the yoko es100 in one day. why bother for tirerack and shipping. I think im gonna go with the yoko's because of treadware and good all around wet/dry/price on my spoons.
I would recommend RE730 since the price is cheaper than S-03 and RE010. I drove my set for almost 30000 miles+ (65% HW 35% City) and Costco sell them for around $100 per tire plus $9 for mounting with lifetime balance. Great set of tire with excellent threadwear and traction.

Not the 195/55-15. It's back ordered at Tire Rack because Yokohama can't produce them fast enough to keep up with demand. American Tire can't get them any faster than Tire Rack. It's that particular size, not all sizes.

Well, the ES100 is a WHOLE LOT cheaper than the RE730 or the RE750 (which replaced the RE730). Also, the folks at the Tire Rack tested the ES100 against the RE750, and the ES100 won overall, including better handling. Better and less expensive - makes the choice easy.

I just bought the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D3 from the tire rack in 205 45 16. I will have them mounted next week. I will have some reviews for you all in a month. Everything I have read about them is top shelf and they look awesome! Not too bad at all for $116.

Just called america tire depot and they said the computer shows that there are 20 tires in there warehouse. America tire Co. said that they show stock in there warehouse also. Tirerack might have alot of pull from tire company BUT they also have alot of buyers who buy them quickly. America tire depot said they dont sell many of them, no demand.

I live in the South, and I can say S-03 has no competition in the rain, dry & anything in between.
Of course, they will set you back ~$150 more per set, but somethings are worth every dollar.

S03 is the tire you probably want if you care about the rain. They're pretty awesome. Only thing that bothers me is you have to go with either a wider 205 tire or a shorter 195/50 with S03's. I'm leaning towards another set of RE010's myself. I've yet to anything better for 6.5'' rims.
here's my opinion (hope it helps)...
stay away from the ecsta supra 712...especially for an ITR. i had experience with those tires and basically you get what you pay for (cheap tires = below avg. performance). the re-010 were some of the best stock tires out there, but they are pricey and wear down pretty quick (they were the **** in the summer and on autocross days). the re-730 were pretty good for the price (decent wear, decent all season performance, but not that great for canyon driving), but i have heard more praise for the es100(no personal experience with them). however, hands down for best value, awesome performance, and handling characteristics in relation to the ITR...go with S-03 Pole Positions!!!

In 205/50-15. Older technology, but cheap - you can even get them at Costco.
They grip well in the wet and excelelnt in dry. Not quite as sticky as Azenis, but last longer and make less noise.

I like the RE010 a lot. But I really don't understand the comment that they wear down pretty quick. I still have the original RE010 that came on my '01 PY ITR. So far I have 18,000 miles on them, including three road-course track events, and they still have some good tread (maybe 5/32"). (I keep track of all my miles and this figure does not include my ITR mileage on my track tires or winter tires, only the miles for the RE010 set.) Granted, I keep them properly-inflated and I rotate them front-to-back like a good little boy, but I'm not exactly a granny driver either. I don't understand how some folks can claim they don't get a lot of miles on them.
