Default REVIEW: HAWK HPS PADS

OK i just installed them today and the instructions say that to break them in you need to do some moderate stops from 30-35 mph and a couple hard stops from 40-45 mph. Well as soon as i did a hard stop from about 45..... DAMN i didn't know my car could stop like that. I have no other brake mods it's just stock dx brakes. These pads get from me. well worth the 60 bucks i spent on them.

60 bucks? Is that cheap for what they normally go for? I want new brake pads and people tell me to get hawk.

If there are metal shims glued to the pad TAKE THEM OFF!!! I've seen these shims cut into the rotor.... Not good at all. So please, take them off.

i just put a set of hps on my integra last week. the braking is so much better over the stock pads that had 93k on them (i can't bitch about that as they were decent for a LONG time).

just expect a little more brake dust on your wheels now. mine are starting to get dirty (just over a week of driving, but that is like 1300 miles).

WEll I think the more brake dust is normal for a lot of new brakes as new cars and whatever but after they're 'worn in' I don't think it makes AS much..

Does anyone have any experience with AXXIS metalmaster? My brother has them on his miata, and swears by them.

I have axxis ultimates, a step up from the metalmasters, and the ultimates work great as a street pad, I havent had the chance to try them on the track yet. After running stock pads and upgrading to ultimates, I will never buy anything with less performance than the ultimates...

Hawk's do bite well from what I've heard...but on the contrare I've heard they chew rotors quite fast from the harsh compound of the pad.

i have the hawk hp plus and they tore into my slotted rotors pretty badly. i'm thinking of getting something a little less harsh next time.. maybe the hps? anybody ever try ebc greenstuff? some people love them, some hate them.. anyone with personal experience?

oh yeah, and the hp plus pads stop the car like crazy, with no fade at all on the street or autoxing.

those shims are there to keep the caliper piston from chewing up the pads themselves... i dont see how they could tear up the rotors seeing that they are on the backside of the pad (not the frictional surface of the pad)... maybe there was another reason the rotors got torn up... then again, i may be wrong

I put some on my mom's 3-series and they are a huge disappointment. Don't buy them! I just put some Carbotech bobcat's on my CRX and they stop 10x better than the AXXIS. Also, Carbotech has a h-t discount too

the noise you are experiencing is due to the metallic particles that the pads are made of... its basically metal to metal contact with the rotor

FYI- the shims can cut into the rotor hat , i have seen pics never happened to me. the shims are there to prevent brake noise.

just a warning to all, stock rotors and performance pads dont like each other that much. I warped my rotors in 2 weeks with no slam-on-your-brakes stops. So anyway, i orders some brembo blanks so i dont think those are gonna warp on me

I put Brembo blanks all the way around on my CRX Si and Hawks in the front and Axxis Metal-whatevers in the rear...the little beast stops amazingly now
I take my Honda to an exclusive Honda/Acura shop and they have about 16 years modifying and racing Hondas and swear by them for the money. I said for the money. They claim to have tried everything else and found that Hawks perform the best. Just my 2 cents to pass along.

thats weird... i was told that the shims prevented the piston from ruining the pad... were the rotors that got messed up just stock?
