Default K20a into an EK chassis? Let's get all known swap info in this thread!

Hey All,

I've been trying to search around for as much info as I can find on getting a K series into an EK. I would dearly love to do this swap next year. I was just wondering if anyone has any info that they're sitting on. It would be cool to get as much info into this thread to make it a repository. I know Pacman is probably the most knowledgeable but I haven't been able to get much info from him. I'd love it if he posted or IM'd me as I'm really serious about doing this. If there's anyone else you know that I could get in touch with that would be great also. So, here's my issues to start. I'm sure there's more so if you know them then add them. If you can answer my questions please do! This is the best tech site there is so let's put up or shut up with this one!!

Axles? I've heard dc2 integra axles will work. True or not? That would make things really easy and makes sense because 01+ civics have d series engines that can swap with K series.

Shift linkage? Does it have to be cut? Does it bolt up? Does the shifter tunnel area part of the chassis need to be modded?

How does the engine harness work? Is there a seperate engine harness like the EG/DC2 chassis? Or is it more integrated like the EK chassis where the engine/chassis harness is more like one big piece. What will we need with the swap? RSX-S engine harness and ECU I would imagine? Any other electronic bits that are going to be needed?

Immobilizer/ECU issues? How hard is it going to be to get this reprogrammed by a dealer? They usually need the key for the car, would we need a key also?

Speaking of the Immobilizer/ECU issues what about getting a JDM DC5-R engine. Is it going to cause too much of a hassle to use or is it easier? Does the JDM ecu have an immobilizer? Should the USDM ecu be used instead?

Any differences with sensors, plugs, EVAP, etc between the JDM and USDM motors that would cause difficulty in using a USDM harness with a JDM engine?

And of course mounts. Seems like they'll be coming out soon by Hasport or someone. Anyone got any word on this? I'd love to buy some now from somebody. I assume they'll be bolt in for an EK.

Anything else please add it!!

sigh...i would go thru every one of your questions, but im too tired right now.

you have to basically rewire everything yourself. and i heard the EK cluster will not work with the DC5 swap right off the bat.

i think the RSX axles will work, but i think LS/GSR axles were the other solution.
you can get around the immobilizer, someone was discussing that earlier.

the only solution i've seen is you've got to go to a dealer to get it disabled. And if it's not legit (or you can't prove it's legit, ie. you don't have papers for the engine) you would most likely have trouble. What are the other solutions?

TIA

I don't know about the k20 into a EK but when hasport was putting the k20 into em2 (01-03) civics, they used an Mugen ECU which doesn't have an immobilizer. So that can be another option for you. Btw good choice in engine if you do go through with it handles boost very well.

well, the Mugen ECU is about $1200+ so it's not really an option. Good suggestion though.

who needs boost when you've got 220hp in a 2300lb chassis?

As for the axles you can use integra 94-up axles, 02 si axles. Or you can use rsx axles, but have to use rsx suspension which converts it to five lug. I used integra axles, works just fine. I'm using the rsx-s ecu, had to send the car to an acura delaership to bypass the immobilizer.

yeah, i had emailed him a couple times. Once asking about buying mounts and then asking these questions. Never got a reply. I'll bug him some more though.

The Integra axles almost work, the inner joint on the one that goes into the transmission needs to be from an EP.

The RSX shift mechanism will bolt down the the floor of the EK with some small modification. A hole will need to be cut into the floor just in front of the mechanism to allow the cables to pass through.

Of the top of my head, I would say the wiring is not going to be terribly difficult. At some time in the next month I will sit down at the kitchen table with a beer and the EK and RSX manuals and figure it out.

The JDM ECU has an immobilizer that is easier to defeat. It may be possible to mount the immobolizer in the EK too.

The RSX ECU may cause some issues with the instrument cluster.

There will be bolt in and it will be out as soon as possible. Please don't call Hasport, no one knows when the kit will be out until about a week before it is ready for sale.

It was the same way with the EF hydro, there is always small little problem that slows down the release.

cool. thanks for the info brian.

don't worry, i won't be buggin Hasport. When they come they come. The only issue I'm worried about is price. I hope they'll be below $700.

cool. thanks for the info. using the immobilizer in the EK would be cool. I guess you'd have to get the whole ignition key assy from an RSX or something. Not sure what other parts you'd need.

Any ideas about the USDM harness on a JDM DC5-R engine? I'd really like to use the JDM engine but if the wiring is more of a hassle than I probably won't bother. But the JDM engine already has all the goodies I want!!

The JDM harness will probably be too short.

what about USDM harness on JDM engine? Any sensors that are different or other difficulties that make it not worth it?

i know. and the JDM DC5-R is even more badass!! the only thing i would add would be comptech race header and hondata reflash! that's one badass stock motor!!

i need an EK to put it in first!!

Got all my prototypes done and bolted-in Thursday and they fit sweet. I'll have my car up and running in three weeks. I just need to finish the F20B 2000 Civic Hatch, Turbo H22A with ATTS 96 Integra. Oh yeah, and redo the turbo down pipe and intercooler piping so the turbo fits the EK with the K20.

Some time in early November I should have the bolt in kit in production. I just need to make some changes to the solid model of two of the mounts and change the CNC program. Just waiting for mill time.
