Default 92-95 CLUSTER SWAP PROBLEM.... HELP PLEASE!

Im swapping clusters in a 94 cx hatch. Im putting in a cluster with the tach.

When i turn the car on the temperature gauge goes all the way to red (H) and when you shut the car off it goes all the way to cold.

Anyone know what the problem is?

Also the YELLOW plug, am i supposed to plug that into the cluster??

Thanks for your help!!

Assuming you're putting in an EX cluster? You should have no problems with swapping 'em.

If it's a cluster out of a 5th gen civic, all the plugs should fit into its place.

Edit: I'm slower than poison

its a 5th gen cluster swap.

all the plugs went in fine.

Im not sure if i need to connect the yellow plug onto the new cluster since it wasnt used with the other cluster.

any other info on why the temp gauge is acting all screwy?

thanks

the yellow plug is for the SRS. and everything should plug in just fine, maybe your cluster is bad...........possibly

Nah yellow plug is for the SRS air bags.

If it's a US 5th gen it should plug right in. if it doesn't, there is a problem with the cluster.

I put a EX cluster in my hatch. Swapped over with no problems. I have no idea why your temp gauge would be doing that.

Coolant levels has nothing to do with this.

The temp gauge on the CX cluster was working fine.

Only now that i swapped the cluster, it is showing (H)

you have a short to voltage. look on the back of the cluster. you might see a bit of rust going from one trace to the next. it should be easy to see. goodluck.

someone could have previously taken the cluster apart and damaged it in some way.

i had the same problem with the temp guage when i swapped my cluster in to my cx. the cluster came with guage faces already put on, i assumed that the temp needle might have been removed. when the car was off, the temp needle wouldnt sink all the way to C. i warmed the car up to operating temp, then i careully pulled the needle off with tweezers. then i replaced it at teh correct position. its worked fine ever since.

i assume that u have a candian civic w/o airbags, so you wouldnt have a yellow plug to plug into the yellow port on the back of the cluster

actually i had a diffrent problem with mine. the coil in the back that moves the needle up and down had been disconnected (hard to spot cuz the wire they use to coil is tiny) i had to VERY carefully solder it back together... it sucked, but now it works

I have a canadian CX.

I also have the yellow plug for the SRS, but the car has no airbags.

I connected that wire to the new cluster, not knowing what it was for.

Im gonna unplug that wire and see what happens

Thanks to everyone for the help so far!

Buy Drevinder's 92-95 JDM Guage cluster that will solve the problem As for the Temp needle not sure sounds like bad guage cluster to me Also try and find some one with another 92-95 civic put your guage cluster in it see if it does the same thing...if so then its Prolly gonna be the cluster

My cluster install page.

I had something similar with my old gas gauge. Turns out the gauge shorted out and wasn't repairable. But, check all the suggestions made first.

i did the same swap with my CX, just make sure you have all the plugs in the right place, and it should be a breeze.
