Default 3" Downpipe Flange

I'm going to make myself a 3" downpipe, but I've run into a problem. Hlding a 3" diameter pipe up to my 5 bolt flange, it barely fits. The edge if the pipe is right on the edge of the flange. The size of the hole in the flange is considerably smaller, probably more like 2.5" or so. It seems that moving to a 3" with a 2.5" orifice in the flange seems pointless.

Does someone/somewhere sell 3" 5 bolt flanges? Do all 3" 5 bolt flanges end up this same way? I'm confused.

no that is correct.. Look at the outlet from the turbo.. Traveling the 1/2" of the flange is not a restriction.. Going 3' of your downpipe will be. Weld the 3" directly to the flange as best as you can.

If you can see how i did mine. I just used a torch, a vice and a hammer to bent the pipe to fit the flange.

No A/C in FL? I'm so tired of not having ac. Need to find one damn wire that's loose so I can get my AC running.

Why don't you guys try to duplicate what Stoopid on here has made. I'll be interested in one.

Ask me in a few weeks and maybe you and I can work something out. My welds aren't pretty, and I'm not at all interested in mass producing and/or selling downpipes on h-t again after what has happened... but if you want one, maybe we can figure something out.

BTW thanks again for the headlights.

For my 3" DP I just had the muffler shop make me a 2.5" to 3" transition like the pic above. It's about ½" to .75" long, worked great and I got it for free.

I used one of these machined pieces on my downpipe, albeit i have a 4bolt flange but same principle. Works good

Check mine out. We got a 2.5" to 3" over a 1" or 1.5" duration transition from a piping/flange company, and welded it on, then 3" from there. Works Mah-velously.

We're still sizing it up, but because of the curves, we're making a 2 part downpipe with a v-band connector JUST before it loops under the oilpan. Should make for some EASY downpipe removal in the future!

Here's the pics...

In any case, i think its worth it to use a short flair like this one, or the machined
one listed above. The exhaust gasses in the manifold are under pressure, so
after leaving the turbine they are gonna want to expant.

Nice downpipe Sir Kid
Gotta love vbands. I have one vband connecting my downpipe to the turbo,
and will be doing another between my flex pipe and cat. So much easier than
dealing with crappy flanges

hold up i'll fetch some info.

http://www.jupiter-clamps.com/...b.htm

In this link, you can see how there is a "v-band discharge" for the downpipe, you use the above link style clamp, and then a similar flange on the exhaust, and the v-band clamp forces the two couplings togeather creating a good seal that is easy to remove.

where can you purchase them how much do they cost?

this is good info thanks in advance

someone else can step up about the sc63 info
but a vband is a quick release type clamp. the clamp has "v" grooves in it, and it holds two flanged pipes together, typically the turbine discharge outlet and the downpipe. ATP turbo also sells them http://www.turbopiping.com/pages/3/index.htm

Precision sells a 5 bolt flange that will work with a 3in pipe perfectly..

And ATP does too... For aobut the same cost for parts, But ATP will fit it together, ready to go for a decent price:

For the individual parts:

Vendor : Precision
Product Type : Parts & Accessories
Product Name : V Band Weld Flange
T4 3-inch V-band Weld Flange
Price : $27.50

Vendor: ATP
Weight: 1.85 lbs
List Price: $28.00
Flange, Vband, 3", Machined, Steel piece for welding onto exhaust housing to convert to V-band. Our version can be used on the tube side also as there is a groove cut on the back side to slip in a 3" OD pipe and weld.

Or for the prefab piece:

"Weight: 3.0 lbs
List Price: $85.00

V-band Conversion - 5Bolt T3 flange to 3" V-band. Includes 5 bolt T3 flange, machined 3" V-band flange, machine transition mid section. TIG welded and shipped as an assembly."

Every place seems to have 3" size on the V-bands, but does anyone know a place to get a 2.5" v-Band. ATP has them on the website, but does not actually have them. I called and they said they do not carry them and the website is not correct.

I know they do, but i don't need the flange, just the parts and they want 115.00 for the band and the two sections that clamp together. I have priced out the 3" parts for @55-65, so I think cheapturbo is just ripping people off. The parts cannot be more than 50 dollars for the 2.5". I believe in profit, but not rape.
