Default 97 #237 goes boom. Caught on film.

http://www.wilkerstaff.com/200...m.WMV

Wheels lock up, 5 quarts of oil dumped everywhere. Chaos I say. Chaos... This along with my axle exploding at 140mph near a concrete wall pretty much shriveled my nuts for the weekend.

Someone loan me another set.

edit: URL updated.

That sucks! At least it happened there instead of up on the banking. That coulda been a yardsale.

Small end rod failure due to overheating of that one rod during pin install. Small end went and the rod was free to punch around.

i've got detailed pix of the engine, i'll send them your way when i get a chance warren. sorry about the boomage, but glad you're OK and the car wasn't flung into anything hard as a result. plus, SGT would have been bored otherwise, right?

Nice save Warren. I noticed turn1 was a little slick when we came through there.

Also after the Summit Hyper Fest weren't you guys worried a bit about the engine after replacing the head gasket?

Qualifying.

Practice would be when I exploded both ends of the passenger's side axle.

Apparently, I'm part cat.

I saw that too. Don't think his car liked that banked turn

Warren --> how fast did you get your R up to on that banked turn and thereafter before threshold braking (approximation would be fine)? Just curious because it looks like you guys are near top speed. I assume you are using ATS FD?

The weird thing is corey described the handling of his car on the oval "perfect"

It probably does feel perfect to him.
My car felt great on the banking. Then Blake told me the *** end of the car was hopping around and hanging out between NASCAR 3 and 4. Inside the car the corrections are so small and quick its easy to not even notice them.

And blowing a motor on a track like that can be very ugly. Timing and luck is the only thing between a minor incident and a big mess.
Two years ago at Daytona... Lap #1... On the banks... Fowler is running 4th out of 65 cars. Everybody is lined up like a freight train in the draft and a rod punches a hole in the block. Fowler said he was trying to get off line, looking at the mess in his mirrors just thinking "sorry guys... really, really sorry." Fortunately nothing serious happened back there, just a mad scramble and something that resembled 135mph ice racing.

Corey was directly behind Warren when he blew. The whole car was covered in a thick layer of oil. Corey said he couldn't see **** but was luckily able to haul the car down. The next few cars through the corner slid and spun only concreting the obvious to the spectators watching, Warren was blown.

Watching it all unfold I couldn't help but have a sinking feeling in my stomach for Warren's absolute horrible run of misfortune. He always seems to smile about it in the end though, and that means he is still having fun.

I told Corey about this video when I saw him this afternoon. He says after scaring himself to death Sunday he knows he needs a rear spoiler fairly badly. I also need to really say NO when he says he wants more oversteer in the car.
