Looking at DIY ram air, have a few questions and ideas
i was looking at http://www.geocities.com/bretq/DIY_Icebox_CAI.html for some ideas for some diy project for my friends 97 ls, i dont want to mess with his turn signals, but what if you made the cai come where the opening in the bumper is? wouldnt that do the same thing as the turn signal? or even put a scoop under the bumper itself a little recessed so you coudlnt see it but it still worked?
you can remove the entire air baffle from the air box down. it'll sound really loud, but has no real performance gains. It sounds almost the same as if you got an AEM cai
To answer your question...Yes. Putting another elbow to come out of the opening in the bumper will do the same th ing as the signal light. But you only need to remove the signal light when drag racing or autocrossing. It'll still get cold air even with the signal light installed.

i have my entire resonator removed and just left the stock intake arm and airbox in with a k&n drop in and no where near as loud as an aem cai...its louder than stock yes but not that loud and has a deeper tone than a cai(aem, injen, etc) but like u said no real performance gain other than a lil more flow with the k&n but nothing the butt can notice...

This is what i'm driving around with right now... i put the lower arm back on without the baffle becuase it was loud as hell, and i lost lots of low end torque. this brought it back a bit, but i noticably lost a bit of the top end. Oh well, daily drivability is a bitch, compromise is the key

What i was thinking is putting a cone filter at the end of the intake tube, putting the box back in but gutting it so the cone filter will stay in there, and doing the CAI, or even cutting the top of the lid a little bit so the filter sticks out a little this way i can get the short ram kinda air with the coldair box also
just remove the resonator entirely....put a better filter in the airbox(k&n),leave the lid on and alone cause by u cutting that lil hole in the top of the lid , there goes your diy icebox, run some tubing or pvc pipe as bsq has showed us how ,to route that cold air up into the stock aibox...or buy a real one...
even if i put my cone filter in it and made the ram air it would still make a diffrence because the motor would just suck in all the air thats being pushed right into the filter
