ok,after having issues with overheating and white smoke,i pulled the head on my freinds crx/sohc,turboed with t25.

i found 1 fugged headgasket,and i found 1 crack in the #1 OUTSIDE wall,the inside of the wall looks normal with no scratchs or anything.the outside wall looks like aluminum and the inside looks like iron.the aluminum outside is the one thats cracked.

can we just replace the gasket?atleast for a quick fix?how long would it be before the motor went for good?

 

I dont know the answer to your original question, but why dont you guys just swap out the block. It shouldnt be too much money for a sohc block.

 

thats true,that what we will probably end up doing.but just for right now,we would like to get a new gasket in there if we can.i dont think we can though.but theres no sense in replacing the block if it just needs a new gasket,im just not sure how critical a crack in the outside layer is,i know the inside layer is deffinetly not good.the outside layer would not really effect much,i dont think???
