it brings all your gears closer together. Shortens the final drive. For example, my civic cx can do 66mph at almost redline in second gear. If i got a Civic EX or Si transmission that has a shorter final drive i would have to shift into 3rd a bit sooner than 65mph. Soory for the shitty response, im tired!

Faster acceleration but lower top speed if you don't change the rest. That's it....

Actually since top speed is drag limited and not rev limited I believe top speed stays the same.

What are the speeds reached at about 8400 with the final drive, in 3rd and 4th? (also with the GSR fifth gear?)

i know the answer to this question has about a million variables to take into consideration, but roughly, if the stock 1/4 time of an itr is 14.7, what can someone expect to run with a jdm final drive and lightweight flywheel?

Actually since top speed is drag limited and not rev limited I believe top speed stays the same.
I don't agree with this. If your final drive is, let's say 5.500 then you won't reach your actual top speed that is determined by drag. You will hit the rev limiter first before the drag is at its maximum. The same case when you mod your engine and you gain like 50 hp. Your top speed will be much higher if you get a longer 5th gear or final drive. Otherwise you will hit the rev limiter first before the drag equals to the engine power. Also after the peak rpm your power will drop. The ideal gear ratio for top speed is when you reach your top speed (determined by drag) at peak power rpm in the highest gear.

All I know is...the benefit of greatly noticed when running on the circuit....

but also driving TO the circuit....

5200rpm INDICATED on the tach at a little over 140kph.... WITH a Zigen 304 N1 catback fitted with testpipe WITH the silencer curiously missing....

ARGHHHHHHHH!!.... earplugs indeed!!
