Apexi exhaust rattling????
hi,
i just bought a brand new apexi worldsport catback exhaust for my civic EX. i installed it and made sure all the joints were tightly bolted, and then i noticed when im on the highway it rattles, especially if i turn to the right. when i slow down coming off an offramp going to the right, it rattles quite loudly. i dunno what the matter is, i looked at the harnesses they seem to be secure, i think its the large "drum" part of the exhaust near the end that is rattling, at least thats where it sounds like the sound is coming from. Any ideas?

yeah the best thing to do is if you can get to a lift put it up and bang on it and see where its hitting or try to get it on jack stands or something have somebody in it rev it up try to pin point the rattle maybe bend back some of the heat shields. mine rattled bad just before my driver side motor mount broke mky motor mount was breaking and and i caused the motor to twist a little but i dont think thats ur problem

The gas tank is NOT only on the left side of the car. It pretty much goes all the wasy accross. I'm pretty sure th exhaust is hitting the gas tank, it's a known problem with the WS.

im pretty sure the ws has an extra flange on it as compared to stock, and it hits the gas tank. it is def a common problem. i checked mine and i have like about an inch clearance between the tank and flange, so i got lucky.
I know that my exhaust has hit both the heat shields protecting the fuel tank and the brake line for the rear passenger disc brake. I would check both of those things. I just removed the heat shields and bent the brake line a little.
When I had my WS exhaust I had the same problem. For my problem the "S" bend pipe was hitting the gas tank heat shield as others have described. If you take your car to a muffler shop I'm pretty sure they can reweld a new flange to adjust the pipe angle. Had a similar problem with a old Greddy system hitting my rear sway bar and a muffler shop fixed the problem.

I put a WS on my 93 HB and it didn't hit the gas tank, it would bang up against a spacer on the outside of the first bend in from the muffler, in front of the right wheel, mostly on left-hand turns. I took it to a repair shop and he cut into the spacer and banged it back now it almost never rattles. There was only about a 1/2" clearance afterwards. It's like if there was a 2" spacer between the Cat and the first pipe it would fix the problem, but make the muffler hang out too far.
Does that make sense? Hope that helps

I have the same exhaust on the Cx, and it is great. Mine had a rattle only in idle. I thought somebody had put a rock in it. I took the axle-back off and out dropped a piece of the 1 1/4" stock tubing that was cut-off at the straight pipe, fell back into the exhaust all throughout the b-pipe into the muffler. On the same note, there is now a d16z6 with stock exhaust components to the magnanflow cat. No more 70hp 8 valve 1 1/4" exhaust tubing.
Yes, this topic has been beaten more than your B-pipe. This is what i did: order some of that Thermotec header wrap, and wrap your section that is banging against the tank. I choose 1" X 50' of the nice black graphite color. Works like a charm!
