Default gauge needle tricks, stupid but i need some help

HEY,
Im taking my gauges apart at the moment and this may be a stupid question but id rather ask and know, then to break and have to pay money ... i got everything taken off, screws out and all but the needles are given me a bit of trouble...i tried using a fork to pop them off but they didnt pop. Again i didnt want to break them so i didnt go into hulk mode or anything...anyways i was just wondering if anyone knew how to do this easily? (tricks, tips, whatever)
thanks if someone can tell me someone whos done it before

WHY DO YOU WANT TO TAKE OFF THE needle? if you break it off than you need a new gauge ok

Ummm not true bro sorry. I can get mine off and nothing is broken. They actually slide off. I use a very small screw driver on one side(like the screwdriver to adjust my KYB AGX's) and my finger on the other side and gently pop them off. Nothing breaks.

I do agree with the calibration and it's not too hard to re-calibrate them I've done it many times. Just make sure you have everything off and turn the car to the auxillary mode and watch to see where the needle lands(should land on the "0") then put everything back together when it's re-calibrated properly.

You can tell when it's recalibrated properly also by checking what RPM your at at certain speeds(mph,km/h) depending on your tranny and where you should be on the RPM guage at that speed.

Actually if your talking about stock tachs then maybe the needles CAN'T be removed but my aftermarket ones come right off pretty easily.

I think he has a stock tach but I'm not sure. Anyways, if you're puting indiglow guages in, you don't have to remove the needle I don't think. Just put the guages over your stock guages.

Why are you taking the needles off? Are you trying to put a gauge face on your gauges? If so, you just slide the gauge over the needle and then screw it back down. No need to take off the needles.

Hmm, I used a fork to get my needles off, and it worked no problem. 93 del Sol though I doubt that matters.

As far as the needles being "specially calibrated"......um, no. All you need to do is make sure that you lift them over the stops (tach and speedo) and mark the position at which they finally stop - then reinstall them at the same position and lift back over the stop. The position is about 7 o'clock if I remember rightly.

The stock gauges are only really a "guide".....they're not super accurate, sensitively calibrated ones.

HTH!

accurate setting???? LOL

My speedo and tach were inaccurate from the factory. Tach is about 300 rpm fast and so is the speedo, shows 5 mph faster than actual speed.

--because im stubborn i was just wondering if it could be done which some people said it could so i tried it and hoped for the best but unfortunatly the best didnt come.
sorry it was just a little question... but thanks fer yals help who did help me i learned a little bit...
--by the way the reason i needed to take the needles off is because im making custom gauges on the computer. In order to accomplish this i need to scan my gauge faces and pull them up on photoshop...and since i couldnt find the template for my car on the internet i had to resort to more drastic measures such as pulling my needles off. which didnt turn out all that great (i used forks by the way). If no one had told me that it could possibly be done then i wouldnt have tried it, but its not that big of a deal to me i just gotta earn some money and fixed what i screwed up. but thanks for even responding to such a stupid question all that did... i appreciate.

Looks like it can be done.

I use these pliers that have a bend in them. They look like a L.
I bought them at Costco.

STOP doing this people.

They are considered broken once they have been removed. Bottom line.

And for others, if you have good luck at getting them back on, then GOOD FOR YOU. But please do not sit here and tell people it is perfectly ok to do this ****.

I myself have broken them before as well. And I have had absolutely NO luck at getting them back on. They aren't designed to be popped on and off..
