hid ballast mount
I just got my kit a couple mins ago in the mail. I want to install them now. I am not sure what would be the best place to mount the ballasts. Any recommendation is appreciated. If possible, please post pic's of your install. Thank You!!!
Props to Trevor Tan at http://www.visualdynamics.ca for the catz kit

pass side = under the ABS crap, or ziptied/velcrod/dbl sided taped to the front of the abs unit. Under is better IMO.
drivers side depends on if you have anything installed around the motor mount/shock tower area, just find space for it.
some mount behind the bumper cover for a cleaner look. I was going to do that as well but have been to lazy to move something that is already setup and works

Yea, what El Kamizzle just said.
Unbolt the ABS brackets, shove the ballast under there. It helps if it is wrapped in some sort of rubber sleeve type thing. once you rebolt down the abs brackets, it fits like a glove.
As for the driver side, right up against the shock tower area if you don't have anything right in front of it.

Wondering how it doesn't move when it is mounted where specifically?
the ballast can't move under the abs brakets/unit. You'd have to see it to understand.
PUtting the ballast (mine was wrapped in two sheets of rubber/plastic type material and zip tied together) on the driver's side in front of the shock tower is pretty tight too. I'm not sure what is right in front of my shock tower, but there is just enough room (1-2" wide) to fit the ballast. They don't move, never moved at all, and didn't have any problem with several thousand streets miles, autocrosses (2), and two track days.

Re: hid ballast mount (Chris N)
I did the clean mount by taking off the bumper. Drilled holes through the sheet metal (8mm is the size of the screw for the CATZ ballast) and just bolted them on snug.

Chris: He meant when mounting it behind the bumper cover.
Basically it's zip tied and velcro/doublesided tape'd on in most cases. somewhere you can by mounting brackets/housings with holes for mounting but I've never cared enough to look around. Behind the bumper cover just so it's "cleaner" isn't worth it imo. I only considered it because I have cruise control so the drivers side ballast is just kind shoved in and had to reroute some wires and crap. nothing major but without cruise control/an alarm/whatever in that spot I'd just use that.
eva: do the catz come with mounting holes/brackets? if so then my directions are for phillips and not catz ballasts. didn't know they had mounting holes/brackets already.

I got a 404. But all I wanted to know was if the catz' ballast had the mounting holes/brackets anyways

they wont move if bolted in then. if you need instructions on removing the bumper cover check http://www.bseries.net in the Garage/howto section. I'm assuming the link Eva provided has that info as well but since I get a http 404 I can't confirm that.

Re: hid ballast mount (Eva01)
Here is how I installed my CATZ HIDs. Took about 2-3 hrs total in work time. First remove the front bumper. Mark up the holes where you want to install the ballast. Remove the headlight housing so you don't drill into them and make your holes. Use 8mm nuts and bolts to secure the ballasts to the sheetmetal. There are two holes inside the fender where you can run the wiring though into the engine bay. Then run the wires to the ignitors.
I place the passenger side ignitor under my abs and secured with zipties and the other one I secured to a bolt above the windshield washing resevoir with the provided mounting plate and zip ties. Attached all the wires together and install the HID bulbs. Next, reinstall the headlight housing and the bumper and you should be good to go. Make sure you align the bulbs so you don't blind anyone on the road, ok?

Re: hid ballast mount (swtxaznrac3r)
I would place them in the same location as EVA's kit...I tried to put my Phillips kit there when I did the JDM front end, but the wires from the ballasts to the bulbs were not long enough to accomodate that. Although that may not be the best location for the ballasts to be in a crash situation, I think that location would give you the cleanest possible install.

Re: hid ballast mount
It may be worth it to install the ballasts behind the bumper cover to prevent future ownage should those performing state inspections start doing their jobs by cracking down on illegal HIDs (among other things).

Magic JDM X-ray camera.
What you do is take two pictures, using a tripod preferably. and then lay one over the other.

Re: hid ballast mount (Tweakmeister)
I've seen the ballasts recommended as being mounted "wires down" so water will follow the wire away from the connection at the ballast. Good idea to swab all connections w/ dielectric grease to ensure contact/prevent corrosion. Pretty hard to get the bumper cover off if something goes wrong - at least w/o prior planning.

Re: hid ballast mount (EpicTypeR)
i just installed them. i have a slight yellowish tint in mine. is that normal for 4300k bulbs? i was expecting pure white. they are on an integra if that helps at all.
