Alright guys bear with me here, I am helping a friend with his swap, although I dont agree the method it was done/being done with I am still helping..
Basically the EK harness is one piece correct, we are trying to pull the harness that plugs into the ECU and runs thru the firewall all all the way out of the car. So far we have the motor out and the wiring plugs/sensors disconnected from the motor..
There is some sort of resistance when we try to pull the plugs thru the firewall and thru the grommet....Is there another connection behind the dash we dont know about..??
When we pulled the wiring harness thru the firewall on my friends 96 it was just one piece, but of course the dash was off...
opinions, tips, etc..

there are 4 plugs on the harness 3 for the ecu and another with a (if i remember right) a green plug on it. Also the whole rubber grommet is kinda bolted to the engine side of the firewall. Just making sure you have those un bolted cause theres no way your getting the harness through the rubber boot.

Actually we got the 3 plugs + green plug out of the firewall, but it seems there is another harness still attached to that harness..??
anyone have the helms diagram of the cabin harness + engine harness for a 2000 Civic

What trim level? HX, Dx, Ex ? It should come right out after you have those 4 detached from the cabin and have the rubber boot removed from the other side of the fire wall.

I can get one but itll have to be in about 6 hours when i go home. The easiest way to find out what youre missing is to have someone pull/move the harness while youre looking under the dash. If it moves its connected, but im quite certain theres only the 4 plugs that connect it.

hrmmm - 6 hrs I'll be gone. Thats what we have been doin, tuggin at it and seeing it moves a lil but not enough.
The grommet near the firewall is still there, Im thinking about just slicing it up...

dont slice it up there are 2 bolts on it that you need to take off in order to get it out. thats what i was saying earlier. remove the 2 bolds and the entire rubber boot/grommet/seal whatever you want to call it will come right off the firewall.
You do not need to get a manual or instructions, just got to your car and look at it closer. You'll find that all you need to do is maneuver it out (after the plugs are unplugged of course).
There is a brown plug on the harness as well that tends to get caught when trying to pull it out of the firewall hole. You need to play around with it because it DOES come out easily..
Don't waste time with a manual or wiring diagrams etc.
And hopefully you have unscrewed the boot from the firewall (2 screws).. because that is part of the harness...

There are six connectors that must be pulled through.
4 - connected to the ECU
1 - under the right side dash, for interior wire harness
1 - behind right kick panel, it is a junction connector.

There are not 6. There are 3 ecu plugs and one brown connector plug connected to the harness itself, as you can see by this picture I took three seconds ago.

A 99-00 Civic with a D16Y5 or D16Y8 has 6 connectors.
The four to the ECU I mentioned earlier, actually, 3 of them connect to the ECU and one of them to the PCM. Then there are still two other connectors. Per Honda they are labeled....C130 thru C135.
A 99-00 Civic with D16Y7 has 5 connectors.
It has one less ECU connector. (missing connector C132)
A 99-00 Civic with a B16 has 4 connectors.
2 - ECU connectors
1 - to main harness
1 - junction connector
This is per HELMS manual

ok - so basically we already have the ECU connectors run thru the firewall, where are the other 2 connectors??
dude lay down under the passenger side of the dash. You should be able to see the large hole where the wiring harness comes through the fire wall. If there are any additional wires there besides ones leading to the 4 connectors you already disconnected, follow them and see where they go.

sorry I am not where the car is, I am at work... I wasnt dealing with the harness yeterday as we pulled the motor out yesterday...
hey Navin..
have you guys bothered to remove the battery at all ?
if you guys haven't you NEED TO...with it removed you'll have direct access to the firewall where the harness runs though.

"hai" we have removed the battery, basically I can see the grommet/plug that is where the firewall is...
pulled the 4 ECU plugs thru, not its just a matter of what else is connected... I wish EK's had 2 piece harness'...not my turf

If you have a EX it should only be 4 connections you have to unplug. Take out your battery and colored battery holder and remove the 2 bolts holding the rubber on the firewall. That rubber peice should just stay connected to the harness. Than pull each plug out individually. If there is another connection, you can see it held on through the fire wall. I got a 99 EX and I'm sure it was just that easy. Also check to see if any of the zip ties holders haven't been taken off. If there is sitill a problem, take out the ECU and see if anything is still on. Really, it's should be very easy to do.

I figured someone would say that. I miss my helms..
