rad fan switch/relay where is it?
my temp was pegged today in traffic, so i turned on my manual fan switch and turn the heat on and it went back down. But when I got home I let it run to find out what the problem was, and the god damn fan won't turn on, on it's own. So what controls this, a relay? Under the air box? I did a search and someone said it's $48 from honda!!!! I'd rather just switch on my switch whenever, but is this the right relay? Is it really that much?
There is a relay near the fan, and on the back of the engine block is a sensor that completes the circuit when the car is up to temp and sends power to that relay.
Well my switch turned it on so I'm pretty sure it's the relay. Can I just buy something from radio shack or do I have to go to honda or a junkyard?
check the conectors for the sensors that are on the head under the dizzy
they might have broken or fallen off...
if not then maybe those sensors are bad

How is your switch wired? If you did it the easy way and tapped into the temp switch on the back of the motor then your fan relay is good. The Temp switch on the back of the motor triggers the fan relay... if the switch is bad then the relay WON'T work.

See how it has 2 prongs on that sensor? To VERIFY if your relay is good or bad just disconnect the connector off that sensor and put a jumper wire in the connector to join the two wires in the harness together. This will simulate the switch being closed. Now start up the car - if the fan goes on then that sensor switch is at fault. If it does not go on then check out your relay.
The way it works - power is ALWAYS going to the relay. When the temp switch on the back of the motor reaches a "hot" temp then it closes. One of the wires going to that switch goes to ground and the other wire goes to the relay. When the switch is closed it joins the wire to the relay and the ground wire and provides a negative trigger for that relay. The relay then activates and sends power to the fan. Very simple system... none of it goes to the ECU or crap like that so don't ever believe those weirdos that say the ECU makes the fans go on... that's BS!!!

Your fan relay is on the passenger side of your inside fender. It's bolted to the fender with a 10mm bolt. Their are two relays their so make sure you get the right one. Oh yeah the relay is up front near the side marker right in the corner.

it is the same kind of relay as the horn relay above the fusebox under the dash if you want to swap them just to check, but also check your thermostat, that causes a lot of problems as well, and cheap and easy to change.

the fan switch on the block??.... no... it is threaded in..use a 22mm wrench..its not in very tight...G/L
