I need to know for all you who have brought in your teggy for a valve adjustment, how much did you pay and where (what acura dealer - please leave your name for reference) - FYI northeast acura (my dealer) wants to charge me est. $140.00, i'd like to find a dealer that has charged less, bring in a reference from that dealer so I can get it done cheaper, they said a compression test would be 1/2 hour for $35 also
$140? wholly crap...thats a rip...i think
i paid like $80 on my Prelude...at a dealer, and I thought that was expensive...
hmm, interested in everyone else's response

They did a valve adjustment with my scheduled maintenance, so if you have the time to wait, then you can get everything done at once for one lump sum.
Hmm I think I did mine for $19.99 or something - well whatever my feeler guage ran - that's what i paid.. maybe a little more for a some RTV and a new valve cover gasket if you want. Why not just do it yourself. For that money you could purchase a new gasket, RTV, a HELMS (which is SO important), and a feeler guage and be able to make the lash as tight as you want!!! Also while your at it spend $30 and BUY a compression guage and do it yourself its soo easy. Then maybe you'll want to replace your plugs after you see what they look like. IF you ever plan on getting serious some of the aforementioned items are priceless. Just my $0.02

1st - I can't just drive down to the city, 2nd - I am not mechanically inclined, and would think that I would do more harm then good if i did it myself (I did read a post a while ago with all the steps, I'd rather not mess it up, offers open to anyone in the albany (sorry not NYC) area ek9t meet halfway?

Yea..its basically that easy. The only other thing you need to do is get each piston at TDC when adjusting that cylinder...again...very easy to do..just turn the crank.
I pay about $70 each time I think, if that's the only thing being done. My advice, find a Honda-certified mechanic near you who you can trust, who ISN'T a dealer. I buy some parts from my dealer now and then, but service is expensive. They estimated putting my shocks/springs on at $150.00 per wheel, which I think is quite high (I only asked out of curiosity). I'm willing to bet my mechanic will be a ton cheaper, and I have a good relationship with my shop and trust them.
70 bucks for the manual
15 bucks for the tool.
1.50 for a feeler gauge from pep boys.
10 bucks for new spark plug o rings seals and a headgasket.
never had to pay again after that.
5 bucks for new o ring seals.

I paid 20 bucks. I know a mechanic at a local Honda dealership. I get the awesome "after hours" rate. It's great knowing a good mechanic.
turnhow do u turn the crank? where's the bolt located? with what too?
Dustin
