Good info. Just gives me more reason to get rid of my CAI.

Can we have a little more info please?

What was the diameter of the CAI tube? Short ram tube? What type of filters were used? What do you mean by "custom CAI"? Was the CAI a long-tube style intake or was it a box style?

Hm..I always thought cai's gave a little more top end over sri's. Even then, i didn't think the differences between the two were that significant. This is making me curious enough to try this myself.

Both CAI and SRI used the same 3" piping and same filter.

Actually I just convert the CAI into SRI by take out the bottom half of the pipe.

custom CAI in AEM style.
custom SRI is just filter on a stick.

im sure steve is probably laughing, cause he has been saying this for a while (i remember at least 1.5+years ago) that K&N on a stick is better than a cai

You shoulda compared it to some "non-custom" intakes to give us a better idea.

thanks for posting, but this doesn't change the fact that you can't really get accurate dyno numbers of a cold air intake vs a short ram... the airflow and temperature in the engine bay changes dramatically if the hood is opened or closed, and if the vehicle is moving, or standing still... Of course a SRI will make more power on the dyno with the hood opened and the car standing still - but what happens when it's 100 degrees outside and your moving at 45+ mph?

I am going to borrow my buddy's digital temp sensor and do a little experimentation this summer with my CAI to help settle this argument...

*Edit* -- ^ Beat me to it by seconds ^

when will these people ever learn that you can't acurately test a CAI on a dyno.......the flow of cold air when traveling at a high speed is what benefits this design......

[Sarcasm]Don't you know, dyno's prove everything. And real world performance doesn't really matter.[/Sarcasm]

I don't think it make a difference, but from the air temp sensor, the CAI temp during dyno is around 3-4 degree C cooler than the SRI.

Also, since both the cai and sri are custom, so their length is not tuned like the AEM one, may be that make a difference in power too.

I know dyno is not the best place to test intake, but I am using the SRI right now, and it does feel better than the CAI.

muhahaha, I always said this and people who believe in the 10hp gains on AEM CAI had flamed me.

nice comparison

111.8 non-SAE seems abit low

They will figure that out the same day you realize that when moving air temps
arent that much different.

Yep. I also remember just a K&N in the stock location made more power than a shortram. Too bad no one archives all these dyno plots...

I just changed out the old no name filter and put in a K&N filter yesterday for the SRI, it definitely feel faster, but too bad no dyno to back up my *** dyno.

Ok, so was there any tuning done with each individual intake??

If not, how is it fair to say which one is better?

People in this thread are already starting to think that a short ram will ALWAYS be better, but there is no concrete information that this is correct.

A fair comparision involes tuning both setups.

I have the APC INTIMIDATOR short ram intake. It works just as good as the others. Really cheap $$$wise too.
