Default JDM MOMO SRS Installation woes....

Sigh, I thought it would be easy but it's kinda hard!

How the hell do you take the TORX bolts off the stock airbag unit?

I mean, I know how to do it, but my little asian hands are falling off because they're on sooo tight! GRRR, I'll get it eventually, any hints?

A few more questions:

I did a search but couldn't conclude whether or not the horn would work once hooked up, thanks.

use a ratchet. Or torque your screwdriver with vicegrips.

There's a couple of blemishes on it so I got it for $425, good price to me.

Just finished the installation and I gotta say damn this wheel is freakin' nice! I had to test fit it like 4 times to make sure the wheel was straight but other than that it feels so good.

I also modified the SRS reel so that the signal cancellation works correctly, my horn works perfectly too.

LOL, excuse my HID pictures, just got camera happy

I can notice the difference in size of the wheel, although it's only about a half inch or so.

I believe the stock USDM ITR steering wheel (note: same as other USDM DC2 steering wheels) is around 380mm... this JDM ITR SRS steering wheel is 360mm!

nice steering wheel btw...

I like the grip of it at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions!

skafia, don't you love the feel of the JDM SRS wheel? I had the non-srs ek9 wheel in my ek before i forked out the dough for the srs one, and i liked it so much more. just felt better in my hands. i also liked the little horn push buttons.

This is for anyone that has this wheel. I just installed it this weekend. To avoid the SRS light, mkae sure you don't start the car before you hook up the airbag and you won't need to reset it.

Me and a couple other people have had the same problem with the momo wheel not wanting to mount completely straight when the wheels are straight. Was this a problem for you too? I am just trying to figure out whether this is an issue that most people go through. I have been informed that an alignment shop can fix that, but I just wanted to get some insight first.

Yeah, it was an issue for me. It was a notch too far to the right or the left, I could never get it centered perfectly. Even with an alignment, it was still a little off. Pissed me off, but I got used to it.

YumVtec:

When the airbag is out, and you look at the crosshair did it ever match up with the three dots on the inside of the steering wheel? I noticed that when the crosshair is pointed at the 12,3,9 position that seems to be when my wheels are straight, but when the steering wheel will never line up. It seems that there isn't enough teeth on the damn thing. It sucks while negotiating turns because I always pull the wheel straight and I'm not used to the car not going straight while doing so. It seems that the wheel is closest to beign straight when it is a little to the left. At first I thought it was my installation that was faulty, but after I fiddled with it, I noticed that there was nothing I could do.

Thanks for all the compliments guys.

As far as making retrofits for people, I've been asked numerous times but I don't think I have enough patience and time to do it again.

When I first put the wheel on it was really crooked but after playing with it about 4-5 times the steering wheel sits to the left just a little bit when going straight. I was thinking of taking it to an alignment shop and having them do it.

I lined up the crosshairs perfectly but maybe it's the shaft that gets moved when the 19mm bolt is attached, you know, it's spinning or something.

Anyway, if you guys want to fix the signal cancellation all you have to do is break the tabs off of the USDM SRS reel and it works perfectly.

The steering wheel feels so much beefier and better than stock, I love it.

Mires, I don't think I'm going to do a writeup on how to install a JDM SRS wheel, it's pretty self explanatory, and I didn't take pictures at the time so... maybe next time

It's hard to get a dremel in there, I just used needle nosed pylers and a screwdriver. Be very careful because the plastic to the SRS reel is very weak.
