well.. if rsr isn't 2.5", i don't see a point of using muffler from that exhuast on larger piping..

if custom exhaust is mandrel bent and put together well, it shouldnt make a difference, but diameter will matter if you're going to push for more hp,

i also think stock exhaust is good enough for mild boltons..

A properly built custom 2.5" exhaust will almost definately out-perform the RS*R on an ITR.

If it will truly be mandrel-bent, the determining factors will be the components being used (i.e. resonator, muffler). As long as quality parts are chosen, there shouldn't be a problem. In this case, he'll want a 2.5" straight-through muffler and at least one quality resonator sized to suit his sound preference.

Dood, you're giving your friend good advice. If he does not want to follow it, fockem. Let him get some POS exhaust that sounds like a weedwacker.

On a more serious note, if the place isn't a reputable exhaust shop, I'd buy the Skunk2/RSR Invidia N1 or look for Kteller on this board. He sells really nice, affordable 2.5" catbacks that just need to be welded together..

I think RSR makes a 2.5", but I would recommend the custom system. If the shop really does mandrel bends then it is no "mom and pop" place. The reason that I went custom was that I wanted a 2.5" system with two resonators like the stock set up but also with a straight through muffler.

Your buddy probably doesn't need a 2.5" if he just has bolt ons, but it won't hurt.

To me it boils down to the fact that it will save him $200.00.

So when he throws it away and buys a decent exhaust, he wasted $400. Just depends on how you wnat to look at it.

So custom, mandrel bent exhaust systems aren't decent? That's news to me. I agree that if he gets one with no resonator it would be loud as ****, but that is a question of taste not quality.

I'm not saying that. I was commenting on the fact that his friend was clearly not intrested in following good advice.

this is the most confusing post i have ever had. i think its great you guys are giving ur imput but its kinda hard to weed threw it. so basicly i figure his best bet is the rsr over the custom bent because it wont be like a performance shop doing it its just a normal muffler shop not one KNOWN for good hi-perf cat backs.

I'd like some more details on the shop. Mandrel bent piping is not that common. If this place does mandrel bending then I would think it would be a top of the line establishment. There is no rocket science invloved in making a cat back. It is not as complicated as designing a header. All they have to do is make it as straight as possible.

If a "reputable" exhaust shop is located in your area, that has "mandrel bent" piping available, then check it out. If not, just get a decent aftermarket catback like the Skunk2/RSR and call it a day.
