Please pay respects to 1998 #55....
It all started a week ago - what turned out to be a very busy and crazy week.
Monday and Tuesday last week were the usual 12 hour days a work. I was trying to get thing done since I was going to be out of town later that week and on vacation the next.
Wednesday morning I got up super early to go down to NEOCON a furniture trade show in downtown Chicago. We had a nice spot on the 8th floor over looking the river. Our showroom turned out very nice - I was glad to see that since I'm responsible. I bummed around the show until about 2:30 and then I had to leave for O'Hare to catch a flight to Dallas for a meeting the next day.
Went to O'Hare where I was pretty early. My flight was supposed to be at 5:30 but I read the itenerary incorrectly and it wasn't until 7:30. I sat down a at busy bar and ended up chatting with this furniture designer. My flight kept getting pushed out due to weather until finally the boared said "Delayed-No time" At that point I bailed.
I was planning on picking my dad up in Chicago the next day and taking him back to Madison with me. Since I wasn't going to Dallas I gave him a ring and we shared a hotel room and I went to his Chicago office in the morning - he lives in Florida. We got back home on Thursday night just in time to catch Tracy at work - TGI Friday's mmmm beer. It was good to see my dad - I hadn't seen him since the end of last year.
Friday was another busy day at work pack full of non-stop meetings and trying to get caught up on email and voice mail so I could leave town and not have a total mess to return to.
Saturday we got up early and headed up to Road America for the June Sprints. Tracy's dad "came out of retirement" to do one last race in his SSB Honda Prelude. He was third during his session on Saturday. We stayed in Saukville that night and of course we had Tomaso's - our favorite Milwaukee pizza that night.
Sunday we were up early to catch the EP race - we had a friend who was running a Prelude. He blew his motor up
Dan raced at 3:00ish and ended up winning with a great display of driving. He was very emotional - his first June Sprints win. My dad and I each had chipped in $500 for sponsorship to get him tires and brakes - he was very grateful and it was awesome to see him take home the win.
We left for Michigan at that point. Dad drove Tracy's EP Bus and I drove the Arrrrr. Rolled in around 11. Stopped at big Boy which was apparently closed - we missed it by a few minuted and they wouldn't seat us. I was super pissed and proceeded to lay a big patch in their parking lot - something I never do, but I was hungry and tired. Well their happend to be a cop sitting right in front of me at the gas station. I toled them some story about Mr. Mugen getting down by the pedals.... they let me go without writing me a ticket. Oh well... **** happens.
Got up early again so I could get up to the track and get teched and change pads. First and second sessions went smoothly. I rode with Dad. He was a little choppy, but it had been a year since he had done lapping, and in reality he was doing very well after a few laps.
During third session I was riding with Tracy in the EP Bus right behind my Dad who had Wai riding along. I got to see the whole incident. Dad came through 5-6 with a lot of speed and dropped two wheels. As he re-entered the track it looked like the edge of the rumble strip caught the wheel wrong and sent him going the other direction off track. Dad did the right thing. He had the brake on, but had nowhere to go and hit the dirt berm. I could see everyone was okay and I didn't think the car took too much of an impact. I felt aweful for my Dad. I didn't care about the car, I had written it off the day I got it - you have to do that if you do this kind of stuff.
Dad and Wai were okay which was number 1. A little sore but okay. The car is pretty bad. It is repairable, but I'm not going to be fixing it. It requires new front rails and the underside took another good beating - it had already been threw something bad from the previous owner.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to be parting it out - but don't ask becuase everything is spoken for. I mean everything.
Gotta run.... Someone post up some more pictures.

Sorry to hear about the incident, Clayton.
I'm glad that your dad and Wai are not injured! That's what matters the most.
From the picture, it looks like the car can be fixed for more track whoreage. Keep us updated.

For having the right attitude!
I enjoyed getting owned by you and your car at the expo. Truly sorry to see it go, but at least it died honorably.

The most important thing is that no one was injured. Mine is also #55 ( a FBP 2000 model though). If you change your mind and repair it best of luck to you guys!

Clayton, sorry about #55....... Your dad was doing well. But crap like that just happened. I had similar incident like that but was just lucky enough that the car shot in the "good direction" and came to a stop without hitting anything.

I'm ok and glad to hear that you guys made it home safely. I'm sure the heart of #55 would fire up again, continuing its track journey.

No kidding. New core support and a little work with the BFH. You can even reuse that bumper cover.

Im sure you got a few tricks in the bag for a new project Clayton...
The car is a blast to ride in, and Im sure your next step will be even better...

As much as we'd like to think otherwise, **** happens. Again, I'm glad to hear the occupants of #98-0055 weren't seriously injured.
And from the pictures ... it's just screaming for a Mugen "Accord" front end now.

The damage is a bit worse than Mike's pictures indicate.
Yea, it is fixable, but the area where the driver's side motor mount attached to the car.... totally bent up and in. Everything compressed up to the shock towers, looked pretty ugly.
Anyhoo, someone will be able to fix up the shell and go from there.
I'm glad your dad and Wai or ok. Monday was a bad day at gingerman!
