Default Pics of My new Crvtec Turbo & my Blown Ls/vtec

Well, some of you know I blew my Ls/vtec turbo a month ago (which I'm very notorious at) Cracked #2 sleeve at the track running 14psi.. The car was perfectly tuned at 12, but at the track it was hot, and I bumped it up a few pounds, and that small amount did the trick grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

ping ping ping ping crack

So this weekend I finally pulled it out of my car, gonna use it for turbo mock ups only, and maybe sleeve it one day, kinda sad, that bottom end had extremely low miles.

Also, I wanted to give you guys an idea of how ugly and shitty this downpipe was on my old LS/Vtec.. This was the orignal downpipe we made like 1 1/2 years ago, that has been cut/hacked to fit lots of different projects, with lots of various welds, lol!

Onto the good stuff

I then pinned/posted the block using little threaded studs that is the exact same alloy as the honda block. This method of block support is used on my race zc block as well.

More info:

http://www.muller.net/sonny/crx/engine/posted.html

I really wanted to paint this block a dark maron, dark red. Kinda like how the JG blocks look. So I ordered some MG marron from Por15, I got it, and tested it out and the **** looked PINK! So I said **** it, I decided to go with flat black. I think it will hide the oil well

Pretty much using the same turbo setup as before, with a few added things. using a .63 a/r Exhaust housing for my T3/T4 Turbo. The compressor is a .50 , this turbo has hardly any life left... massive shaft play, like more shaft play than I have when my girl is bleeding

I am using the Tial 35mm WG (rather than my deltagayte), and made a new dump tube, along with a new downpipe.

Ah yes... Nice smooth bends, which turned out pretty decent, little adjustments had to be made once they were in the car, lol. ok.. Big adjustments

I thought the turbo setup came out real nice. My buddy does all the tigging, My skill level with a tig is horde, I melt everything

Here is the turbo fitting that we got from Craig @ TunerToys, if you guys are interested in getting one of these nice steel 3 way fittings check out this thread.

This install was pretty straight forward, but I came running into things, and after a few long nights at work, I just really got sick and tired of this thing..

At last! Finally done................... ;D ;D ;D There was no way the stock radiator was going back in there, I was sick and tired of that big ******* bulky thing, So a friend of mine gave me his extra 5g Civic radiator, and I fabbed a few mounts up and it fits PERFECT! I was thinking this was going to be the hardest part of the install, when it took about 30 mins. I think for once I finally had a ADVANTAGE of having the car wrecked, everything was already cut out for the intercooler install, so it was a breeze.

Inital start up was scary, The engine was running on 3 cylinders, lol, I was freaking out thinking I had bad rings or something, did a compresson test showing 20psi in cylinder #4 so then we did a leak down test showing the compresson was leaking out of the valves. Then it all dawned on me! I didnt even adjust the valves after I got it back from the machine shop, :-\ newbie mistake but was easily corrected.

So whats the mod list of this ****** now?

B20b (CRV) Stock Pistons/ Stock Rods (pinned block)
B18c P72 GSR Head 5way Valve Grind (c/r is 9.5)
Stock B20 Headgasket
Custom Turbo Manifold
T3/T4 .63ex/.50comp
Tial 50mm BOV
Tial 35mm WG 6psi
2.5 DP / 1.5 WG DP
3in Exhaust
JG Edlebrock Intake manifold
64mm GSR T-body (proflowdesign)
AN-R Intake manifold Gasket
DSM 450cc Injectors w/ Zdyne GOLD SECU
Tyrus 6in FMIC w/ 2.5 IC piping
5g Civic Radiator

So what are my impressions of this?

We'll do a RPM breakdown, lol :-X

1000 - Ahh, nice smooth idle unlike the ls/vtec that had always had bent valves, and was always missing

2000 - Sweet sound of the T3/T4 starting to work its way up

3000 - Start to feel the torque of the B20 kick in

4000 - Peak boost hits at 6psi and the tires are starting to break loose.

5000 - I dont remember my ls/vtec sounding like this?

5500 - Vtec kicks in, and Power finally starts to kick in.

6000 - OMG, what is this? I can hear the wet lesbian ***** farts coming out of my Tial 35mm WG, Oh it sounds like complete ****..

7000 - Feels good, pulling all the way up, the .63 exhaust housing really going to work now.

8500 - Rev limiter......... oh ****, I need some new brakes

Overall, I'm pretty impressed with this so far, It hasnt been dyno tuned, and the WG is only set at 6psi, but the car rips pretty good. Heading to the dyno on Thur, Hope to hit 300's @10psi... HOPE!

yup...

I hit 12.7 @ 112 with the Ls/vtec... Open Diff blows ***

Good thing I towed it down there, I knew I was gonna break something, hah..

I honestly dont think I am gonna take the b20 back to the track, I need to focus on getting my race car completed. I'm sure its a mid-low 12 sec car.

Looks good. Did you have to re-bore the block after you posted it?

After a bit of abuse.. my B20B pistons gave up on me and left some nice scratches on my cylinder walls (0.8 bar of boost)... you better watch out...

you spent all this money why don't you get sleeves, rods, pistons?

same things gonna happen on your new setup if your running that much boost.

I spent all this money? I dont even have 1500 in the entire setup turbo/engine (not including my zdyne)

Plus, a built engine is way out of my budget, sounds cheap, but adds up real fast..
Sleeves/pistons/rods/bearings/balanced/machinework/gaskets etc... its almost an easy $2000 bucks..

The B20 was 700 shipped, so it was hardly anything.. It wont blow again, as I said the engine was not tuned for 14psi, and it was running on a stock pump. I put my walbro 255 back in.

The B20 sleeves are all cast together. The casting itself is extremely complex compared to the B18/B16 sleeves. The fact that the casting is large, with variable thicknesses and they are very brittle by comparison to their simpler round counterparts. Brittle parts can't "flex" under loads. That is also why I aided the sleeves with Posts/pins. Basically the B20 and F20c (s2000) share the same sleeve design.

12psi tuned correctly shouldnt be a problem. Remember detonation is what kills....

But thanks for your thoughts

Jeff

Nice work, Jeff.

My block is posted, too. One of the links posted above is to my web site. I haven't run any boost through it yet, but I've got 600 break-in miles on the engine and so far, so good.

Posting/Pinning is used in Nascar, this idea was introduced to the honda world from Larry T.O.O http://www.theoldone.com Supposivly he runs 20+psi on his daily z6 block.

Now these are definatly honda-tech worthy

Now, you guys can see why I had to finish my car, lol........ I hate driving that ******* thing.

Not enough zip ties; that B20/VTEC will be lucky to last three weeks.

You pull any leg in that van? I had Chebby G10, I didn't so much as get a date the whole six months I owned it. I'm wondering if that's a Chebby thing or a van thing...
