Philips HID Xenon Install, many pics!
If you are tired of being left out of the Xenon HID revolution, now is your opportunity to get on board! Since Dave (mltdown) and I went to the last Chicago ITR meet we have had HID on the brain. After seeing one of these kits on a yellow Type R at the meet we both decided to purchase kits for our Type R’s. We purchased the philips/Hella kit for $500 from a very nice individual name Trevor Tan located in Toronto Canada.
Trevor’s Web site

The kit is simple to install, and I do mean simple. It took me less than 30 minutes to install on my car. The kit is designed specially for Honda’s with 9006 headlights (driving lights/low beams). All you do is plug in the Xenon lights, secure two ballasts, and your Integra looks as cool as the high end BMW’s and Audi’s, at night
. Believe it or not, the ballast’s are attached via sticky tape and velcro, which works surprisingly well. I do recommend using zip ties for added security.
Here is a nighttime comparison between PIAA Platinum Series Super White bulbs VS. the Philips HID kit. Before I purchased these lights I was a bit skeptical about this comparison but after installing them on my car I was pleased to see that this picture is realistic.

Here are pics of my car with the kit.

And don’t forget to check out the video I made. For those of you who are not familiar with Xenon lights, they have a 5-10 second warm up period when you turn them on (very entertaining to watch). They turn on instantly, like or stock halogens, but the initial color is bluish purple. After about 5 seconds the bluish tint fades into a crisp white color. The video clip is a bit deceiving because it appears the light gets darker during the warm up period (in actuality the digi cam is just adjusting the light aperture). But the clip does give an okay demonstration of how the light changes from blue to white. In person the lights are even more impressive.

My brother owns an S2000 and my mom has an Audi Allroad so I’m quite familiar with quality HID’s. This philips HID unit for the Integra is the real deal. The appearance and quality ranks next to the units found on these high end automobiles.
Another great thing about these lights is that it does not aggravate oncoming traffic. I have done about 10 hours of night driving since the install a few days ago with no one flashing me (with their high beams, not their...). The 3rd Gen Integra has a very precise low beam cut off. This keeps the intense light of the HID’s on the road and out of the eyes of oncoming drivers.
Trevor from visualdynamics.ca is having a group buy for this kit from July 23rd to August 6th. The normal cost for this kit is $500. If 10 Integra owners agree to purchase this kit during the time period specified they can lock in a $450 per kit deal. And if 20 integra owners confirm their purchase, the kits will be sold for only $410 each.

Nice HIDs...I have the phillips kit noticed that you put hella, why? Do they both make the same ballast or they different from just the phillips...Also mine don't exactly look like yours...I watch i can show you but don't have a digital camera.
-Chuck-
-Chuck-
Chuck - The Hella name is laser engraved in the back of the ballasts and it also says made in Germany. I guess Hella makes the ballast's and Philips makes the Xenon bulbs.
Thnaks for the great post! Can the ballasts be mounted outside of the engine bay? The heat will be bad for them. Is there room in the front facia area by the lights?
How do you continue to take some of the most gorgeous pictures so rich with all the right colors. I mean take a look at the valve cover...
sorry guys...it's just beautiful...*sigh*

Josh, great pictures! I have a few questions and a favor to ask you.
1. When you first turn on the light, what is the "warm-up" time before you get the white light? I ask this, 'cuz I use my lights during daytime under "emergency" situations (to warn on-coming drivers and what not). I would hate for the light to not lit and have some moron not notice my car coming, etc.
2. Would you mind taking a picture of your car with all your lights on? (Kinda like the one picture in your gallery where your car is on a side road and you have low, high and driving lights on.) I would like to see the different hue between the driving and the low-beam HID lights.
3, What digital camera are you using? Your pictures are always so clear and awesome !
Thank you.
p.s. Let's get 20 people for this group buy... I wouldn't mind having one for $410... but $500 is too rich for my blood.

Here's a question for you...
When you first turn it on is it really bright but then turn to a yellowish white color? The reason why I ask this is because my friend just recently purchased some HID's and it was the phillips kit. I am quite dissapointed by them in a way due to the fact it is somewhat misleading. I must admit that they are brighter then your stock bulbs but again they seem to not be as bright the BMW, Mercedes, Lexus ect ect ect. When we spoke to one of the representaives about this they said it was normal because the bulbs needed to be broken in. Which meant they had to be used at least 100 hours before even obtaining that true BMW/Lexus look. I'm sure for some the only reason why they purchase this kit is because they want to have better lighting at night... ( Which I think should be the only reason why would you wanna drop so much $$$ in the first place.) But to others they want to achieve the BMW/Lexus look which in this case my friend wanted that and he didn't get it.
We also posted in the Phillips HID forum and to some they have completed the break in stage but yet it is still yellowish white vs the crisp pure white that everyone sees on the street.
Sorry for the long post just would like to get your opinion as to why this is happening... TIA

It's pretty mandatory that the ballasts are positioned in the same locations noted in the pictures. The adaptor harness (That plugs into the OEM power cord for the lights) and socket wire is only about 2 feet long. I see no reason why you should mount them in any other location. I would assume they can handle the heat from the engine bay since the designers intended them to be installed in these locations.
ILOVERACING - The camera I use is a pretty high 3.3 megapixel piece, so that helps take good pictures. I take quite a few shots from many angles and only post the best pics. I'm a perfectionist with everything car related so that's probably why the pics look okay.
I'm glad you enjoyed them.
Cosworth - The camera is an Olympus C-3030. The original images were taken at 2048x1536 but I resized them since that size is overkill for the board.
Like I said, the warm-up is a 5 second cycle the lights go through when they are cold. They are instantly fully bright but they take a few seconds to turn pure white. Once they are warmed up and switched on again the warm-up period is very quick.
I'll try to get some more exterior pictures of my car later this week.
Serenity - Like I said in my original post, I'm experienced with the high end HID's on luxury cars. The philips HID kits are VERY bright. I did not expect the lights to be any brighter. There is a tad bit of yellowish color during the warm-up period but after a couple seconds there is only a tad bit of blue when looking directly into the lights. From the driver’s seat the road light is basically white. I never heard of a break in period for these lights.

I saw these puppies up close guys and let me tell you they are nice. And they aren't annoyingly bright, they are just perfect.
And for the prices these are being offered, it's a steal.
If there was ever a time to buy these, now is the time.

I'm also interested in this conversion, but I was waiting to see if their was more
interest before committing. Does anyone know how much shipping would be from Canada?

You guys should go to http://www.itrsport.com for more pictures like that. I'm amazed by what his camera can do
Not to give Black ITR 574 an ego trip, but his site was what really turned me on to how cool the R is
How much can one expect to spend on a camera of that Calibre?

You say when you first turn the phillips on they are the purplish/blue color, then warm to the white. From what i've noticed the BMW/Audi HID's are always that beautiful purple color. Is there anyway to make the phillips stay this color, instead of the pure white? If so i'm in on the buy... Thank you.......

WayneGro - The Philips kit uses Xenon gas so it lights up the road just like BMW/Audi HID's. Maybe if you switch the lights on and off really really fast you could make the stay purple
I would pay extra for the warm up cycle. This is a dead giveaway that the lights are HID's and not just some PIAA replacement bulbs.
io_burn - thanks for the ego trip! hehehe

Here's one that's been completed already. He was asking $400 dollars and nobody bid on it. Is he trustworthy? Well he has over 800 positive feedbacks. Any philips kit with 9006 bulbs will work in our cars. I just don't know why people are spending over $500 dollars for these lights. Almost all of these kits are new.

I already have a set from a junkyard that I modified to fit my car. I purchased BMW 5 series headlamps with philips ballests and hid bulbs for $300. It is the same equipment as you see in the above pictures. If I didn't already have a set I would have bought one of the sets up for auction. Josh, I'm sorry I upset you. It wasn't my intention. I just wanted to let people know that there are alternatives.

Those kits use the wrong type of bulbs for cars utilizing projector lenses like the TypeR/GSR. I have had two people who bought the kits from ebay come to me to buy the correct bulbs.
