Default build time : h23 block and h22 block differences

ok after spending about and hour and a half reading in the archives i didn't really find my answer. Its time for me to build my motor. thing is i can't take it out of the car so i was going to buy another block bare and have it send out and sleved and build the block outside of the car

thing is h22a1 blocks are so hard hard to find, and h23a1 are all over the palce,

my question is if i buy a h23 block and sleve it and build it and swap my crank and new rods and pistons in and put on the h22 head will it be just like having a built h22 block

i guess im asking is what are the difference between the h22a1 and h23a1 bare block with nothin in it (not even the oil squirters) ?

Right, the H23 and H22 blocks are from the exact same mold. The H23 didn't come with the oil squirters but they can be intalled.

i wish i would have know that, i would have had my h23 block sleeved instead of selling it for $100

so is it pretty simple to drop in a h23 crank with no clearance issues?

Correct, although the piston oil jets will get in the way of the H23 crank, just carefully bend them out of the way.

Also in the h23 block there is an oil orifice or something in the top of the block that the h22 does not have but i dont think it will cause any issues. Also make sure you use the head gasket for the h22.

What i was talking about is in the upper right hand corner near the water pump.I have a h23 head an a h22a block, dont ask why all i could get at the time, and yes everything is identical but in that corner it leaked using an h22 head gasket but was fine with the h23 head gasket.Everything else lined up fine.Maybe its because i have an h22a block and not h22a1.

do u want to know the exact differences? , do you mean between the bare blocks, or do you mean whats the difference between a complete h22a1 and h22a?

my guess is differecne between bare blocks, nothing but the stamp, and difference between the complete engines, i think compression intake mani, cams, could be wrong though

If you don't mind me asking , why do you have a h23 head on your h22?
