aftermarket HID kit + no splashguard = a good idea??
i just recently purchased a used set of HIDs, but im hesitant to install them because i dont have any splashguards on my car right now. Are the ballast usually waterproof for most aftermarket HID kits? Im not even sure what brand mine is, but i got it for a really good deal - and it looks nice. What do u guys think? Should i wait until i put in some splashguards, or would it be ok to install now?
I'm pretty sure they are not water proof. Where did you plan on mounting the ballasts? Depending on the location it might or might not matter. Most people that prefer the clean look stick it behind the fender. So if you have a fender liner you should be ok there.
people have also wrapped them in plastic or put them in bags to prevent them from getting wet...if you're that worried about it...
Do you need a splashguard? (if you're talking about the big plastic one under the front of the car?) I have one if you're interested

That's just a non-conductive casing and doesn't mean it's water proof.
Question about the topic, as long as you're installing it away from a direct view of the ground, you should be fine. If you're worried you can either wrap it with plastic or build a small shield near the bottom to avoid any water from splashing against it.

I remove the wholel ballast and replace it with the stock bulbs to seal the headlight housing. I'm not willing to take any chances on messing up my $400 HID system.
