CEL ... ECU throwing code 90 (and now the solution)
My check engine light has come on unfortunately, right as I am trying to sell my car. The ECU is throwing a code 90 and sometimes there is the smell of gas around the car. I have a feeling it is the EVAP canister thing.
Right after I installed the suspension (tein RE) the canister came loose off of its mounting bracket and moved around in the engine bay a little while. I heard the rattle found the problem and remounted the canister. Shortly there after I got the CEL. Reset the ECU, Check engine light was off for a little while then came back on throwing the same code.
I just have a couple of questions. Is this a common problem that has a simple solution? If it is the canister how can I be sure it is the canister that needs to be replaced? I dont want to go to the dealer if I can fix it myself, but if the dealer is the only way then so be it.
As always all help is greatly appreciated.
oh and by the way... it is for sure not the gas cap, I had that tested.

RealTypeR can you really read? Or are you just pretending to be uneducated with posts like this? "yO," seems to be a popular word of choice on ht these days, however it doesn't make any person sound like they have any idea what they are talking about.
gas cap has been tested and is in perfect working order as stated in original post

I have the same problem. I secretly traded gas caps with my gf's DX but my check engine light still comes on.
I don't want to take it in!

Re: CEL ... ECU throwing code 90 (SilverB18C1)
Ok I have spent several hours checking this out and I believe that Soup **** helped me to find my problem. The EVAP purge canister (black thing, a little below and on the driver side of the battery) is leaking. This is what is causing the CEL. Anything leaking air pressure in the whole fuelsystem vacum system will cause the code 90 CEL. The most common leak seems to be the gas cap, but it wasn't in my case.
I either have to find some way to fix the leak, or buy a new canister. I am off to the dealership today to see what the price on a canister is.

yeah, the SV is leaving soon, i'm too scared of ruining my beautiful body, sticking with the mountain bike, almost as fun, a lot safer, and good exercise

More educated tech info from someone who really likes to know what they are talking about. Statements like these are exactly the reason this forum has become hopelessly uninteresting.
Since the CEL has come on I have gotten 50 miles less per tank of gas, and that is definately not performing in the gas mileage catagory.

edit:
Thanks Beth...
Well if you get 34 mpg with it on then by all means leave it on ! I wish I got 34 mpg ever.
Car is going to the dealership tomorrow, so I will update you on what it actually was that was causing the problem.
Keeping the fingers crossed that it isn't toooo costly

Re: (SilverB18C1)
It depends.... I was at the dealership the other day and they were saying that on some years of cars there are extended emissions only warranties.
Stock factory warranty is 5 years/50,000
