Default B18C5 Question

Can someone give me some feedback; when they Decided to put a B-18C5 into a EF-8/9. I would like to know how well it worked out for them and what characteristics it has.

I dropped a B18C5 into my CRX. And with the tire/wheel/suspension problems I have with that car, I have not been able to realize the full potential of this setup. Simply put, it is by far the BEST bone-stock engine you can drop into a CRX. Think of an engine with at least the low end torque of an LS, the endless rev capacity of the B16A, and stock reliability. This is what you get from a B18C5 swap. And contrary to popular belief, you would be hard-pressed to do better for the money. After all, GSR motors are expensive in their own right. You could NOT build an equal or better motor based on a GSR for less than the cost of a B18C5. The bottom line: DO IT!!!

One more thing. Use the JDM P73 ECU. It is not hard to wire up (and before you ask, it is NOT OBDII). And it is specifically designed for the motor. It will run WAYYY better than a PR3/PW0.

This is far from the truth !!! I had this swap it was nice it livened up niceely w/ a set of skunk stage 2's . OKay 4 the facts try finding a legit b18c5 swap for under 5'gs shipped. Even if u do your stuck w/ a tranny u cant use , an ecu that sucks (obd2 crap) I can get a better motor built 4 alot less
1. find a legit gsr short block (no more than $450. all day )
2. b16 or b18 vtec head of your choice (no more than $500. all day)
3.ctr pistons better than itr( I paid $325. w/ rings and wrist pins brand new )
4.all the gaskets and bearings timing belt from acura $400.
5. 1000. to build your long block @ the most including machine work
6.b16 cable tranny $450.
7. mount kit and linkages if u dont already have 450. (hasport)

lets do the math I come up w/ $3570. that leaves u about $1400. for mods such as header, lsd , exhast, intake manifold, t.b. ,injectors , fuel system . U cant do everything but you still will be faster than a itr swap just my .02
also dont dog out the pr3 or pwo ecu they work well especially when upgraded by ericks racing and a vafc . Im a satisfied customer.

Btw the only reason i had a type r motor was cause i bought the short block for $400. and put a b16 head on (same **** minus factory head porting after i installed my valve springs and retainers ) To tell you the truth my ls/vtec woulda smoked my b18c5 (hype r) . Out here in new york parts r cheap try this website http://www.urbanracer.com 4 your parts go to classifieds . these parts r cheap . Good luck and do it right the first time.

If you use all the sensors and a USDM motor would probley pass easier too. It wouldnt doubt that it would pass.

ok ,
now as to building power , how about handling like say some nice sweet *** coilovers , sway bars and tie bars and rear tie bars ;other stuff. I believe there is a saying though , COntrol before Power, cause I think I would get the real feel of my car until I have great handling , put out its full potential and so on.

Listen to StorminMatt... he KNOWS what he's talking about, trust me. Anyways, I know a guy with a B18C5 with B16 intake manifold, gheto rigged distributor, etc etc... running 13.4's!!! Pretty much bonestock in a gutted std hatch... has axle snapping problems though! DO IT! Awesome engine! (btw, my buddy shifts at 8600, which is probably bad )

If this setup is to make comparable power to a b18c5, I doubt it will be nearly as durable. To some people durability is just as, if not more important than power.

I would like to know the the majority of people who think is the best setup or swap of an engine. Basically I would like to hear your views on what engine are great for N/A and going for Turbo. I know you may have heard a question Like to this one but I would like to see other and Reg's on Honda-tech give there own insights on their Favorite engine and other engine Swaps .
BTW I am not out to get Flamed and no one else is neither.

bro its 100% worth every penney, i have a crx hf with a b18c5 and a jdm j1 tranny with no lsd, and ran 13.4 on street tires be for any mods, going back to the track soon, ported polished the head, got the skunk2 intake mali ,and skunk2 stage 2 cams, go some tokico 5ways, and skunk2 coil overs, should be breaking mid 12's, may be low 12's but dont want to get my hopes up, def worth it every one that says no just cant afford one and is str8 hating

Dude , everyone know on this forum that its not what you can get for your money like you saying 2500 for 220 horsepower , its how you tune your car the right way. It depends if the kinda of person who simply wants to keep it N/A or just go turbo.
I do agree that sounds pretty cool but a lot of guys out there know that there engine can top the one your talking about ; if any one see this as they read it would kinda agree i guess.
