Default My JimFab Experience...

I took a trip up to Xtreme to meet up with Hybrid901, who works there, and to my suprise, Josh had a set of JimFab traction bars, ready to be picked up by yours truly.

I hung out up there for a while today, and then loaded up the ole Mustang and headed home for the install. I started a little after 3pm, and the last of these pics were taken by 4:30 or so, so as you can tell, VERY easy bolt in installation...

On to the show:

This is the box that they were delivered in...

All wrapped up:

Nekkid!

Assembled off the car:

And a couple of general clearance pics for those interested...

This is a first gen b16a in a 4th gen Civic (same engine bay as 2nd gen CRX) with HaSport WELDED mounts. Not their new billet ones. I've heard alignment on the billet ones is slightly better.

And for anyone wondering EXACTLY how it was done, here's the tank, coolerand lines setup for my water/air intercooler system:

Here's the Pump that runs it all:

(Bigger Pic here: http://www.imagestation.com/pi...g.jpg The model number IS visible! )

Let me know what you think... I'm pleased, and I'll bet my car will be out and about SOON.

I was kinda hoping for a little more clearance with these, however.

I just put this on my car too, similiar setup (turbo CRX w/ GSR) and it is tight for a 3" downpipe, barely fits. Quality is second to none, I like them alot, haven't got to really try them yet at the track. I also added tabs to it (well Jeff from Insane Exhaust fabricaions in Maryland did) and used one of Jimfab's from CRX trans mounts. Brian

You can turn the wheel full motion with them. They are very streetable...and I run a 3.5 inch down pipe with these exact bars on the race car. They are lighter then stock as well...but the cool thing is, you can still jack the car up in the middle of the bars just like a stock cross member. I'd recomend them to everyone whos looking for a quality peice at a price thats affordable.

I wouldn't jack them up by it! It's too pretty! I don't want to chip of the powdercoating!!!

Anyway, the bars are awesome. Install was SO simple, fit and quality are PERFECT. The are about 5-7 pounds <guesstimate> lighter than the stock bars and crossmember, and OH so much nicer looking. Clearance is definitely improved. My oil return used to be ON the crossmember, threatening to putt the stainless line out of the fitting, now, I've got about 1/2" clearance to ease my mind.

The DP is another story. I'm going to take my car to NexLevel, the local chassis/rollbar fabrication shop, and the are going to build me a nice 3" downpipe with a closed loop wastegate dump tube that comes in UNDER the oilpan/behind the engine for minimum flow impedence. We'll see how this works. I expect the car should be back on the road in about another month or so. I've still gotta buy a camber kit, the DP, and get an alignment, and money's kinda tight right now.

Anyway, keep up the comments/suggestions. Anyone see anything blatantly WRONG with my setup? I'm pretty please with the whole thing, myself!

BTW, big wuestion. Anyone have any idea how many turns per degree of caster change on these bars? I'd like ot know so I can help the alignment guy get this thing preloaded to perfection. What's a good caster spec to go with? .5 to 1 degree preload? I'd like it more setup for STREET/Road Race, and just use stickier meats at the track to get out of the hole.

Thanks, all.

You can order them through JimFAb.com, pricing is on his site. OR you can contact Xtreme, and ask for Josh(hybrid901) or Dustin(VprRedCRX). They are here in Memphis, TN, but would be happy to ship you a set.

Dont talk about preload on the bars to your alignment guy. He will think you are a rookie. Talk in terms of positive and negative castor. I think you want an extra degree or two (from stock settings) of positive castor and your alignment guy will figure it out quickly.

I use Jim's bars on our new coupe, was extremely happy with the quality. Everyone know's how 96 and up's like wheel hoop, we do not have a hint of it. On the 88 to 91's it is also nice to have the extra range of adjustment with jimfab bars, since most crx's or covocs I see never have even caster. Jason

Thanks for the kind comments, guys.

So... should I have him set it up with a SMALL amount of I guess REARWARD castor? I don't know if that is negative or what. That should keep my wheels at 0/0 when I'm on the throttle, I guess...

Anyone have specs I should ask for when setting up a mostly street/some strip suspension?

I was thinking....
-1* camber front and rear.
-.5 to 0 Castor in the front
1.0 to .5 Rear toe
.5 to 0 Front toe
And factory spec for everything else...

Any thoughts on this?
