question about CAI
Yes, and what you do is pull the ECU fuse in the fuse box under the hood on the passenger side of the engine bay leave it out for about 10-15 min. and stick it back in.
Also please let the vehicle idel without any sort of loads. ie lights, stereo, A/C, etc... Please do not touch the accelerator during the 5-10 minutes it takes for the fan to come on... After that shut off the car... Then restart the car and go for a nice drive with varied speeds to aquaint the ECU with the new A/F, barametric, temperature readings it is sending / recieving... Lates
Thanks Teken
Facing the engine bay the fuse box is in the far left corner against the firewall. The lid of the fuse box has a diagram, but the fuse is in the far left corner of the fuse box (15 amp fuse). . This is in a G3 teg not sure about others...
your talkin about the one in the top and most left fusE?
i just asked someone like 5 mins ago cause the topic was still on mymind, and he said that it was the fuse thats 2 below the one your talkin about i think its 40amps....im confused now

Yes it is a 15 amp fuse there should be a diagram right on the lid of the fuse box, unless it has come off, and it shows the 15 amp ECU fuse in the top (top meaning toward the firewall) left corner..

That's the first thing I did - disconnect the negative battery cable. Then I went about installing the CAI and about 1 hour later I was ready to reconnect the negative battery cable. Then I started up the car and let it idle undisturbed until it was warmed up and the fan came on and shut it off. It has been running great ever since.
Quick question on resetting - doesn't the computer automatically compare engine system parameters with hardcoded in 'database' and adjust to get engine system parameters close to the pre-programmed specifications? Wouldn't that mean resetting the ECU isn't neccessary (I've heard of people not resetting the ECU and everything working perfect and I've heard of People resetting the ECU and having problems)? Would letting the car idle undisturbed for awhile upon startup is the determining factor, so the ECU can sort out the system mapping?

resetting the battery does nothing, people think it does but it does nothing. you need to pull the fuses under the hood.

5 minutes just to be safe.
If you want to heed everyone's advice, do this each time you add a significant mod like intake, header, exhaust, etc...
You could disconnect the battery and the fuse if you want... Can't hurt although you'll have to put in your radio code again and reset your clock.
BTW: I will recommend an air-fuel controller - even if you only install an intake.
I noticed that the car was running lean (as indicated by my spark plugs) after installing only a cai. You could richen up the fuel to compensate with an afc...

Just so I correctly understand
G2-backup fuse
G3-ECU fuse
Agreed, removing the battery cable is more involved than pulling a fuse. Thanks again.

Has anyone else read about this not providing benefits? Whoever I rad saying that, probably didn't let the car idle long enough.
Teken: You are saying that the ECU constantly adjusts to new readings from it's seensors? So If my CAI has been installed for three months the ECU has probably already got things figured out . . . no need to reset teh ECU.
