Default Aftermath of Eagle Rods...pics inside...

Here's what my block looked like after the bearing cap on an Eagle Rod shattered...Not a pretty sight...

Note, that the only thing that Eagle did was send me a new set of rods and say "sorry". I guess I wasn't expecting any more than that, just hoping...

I'm still waiting to get it up and running...damn machine shops take forever to sleeve blocks....

Do you think it was faulty manufacturing or over-powered?

Definitely manufacturing, in fact when they got the rods, at first they thought the rod bolt snapped, then they decided it must have been a some sort of weakness in the rod cap. Either way, the car was all motor, and on pump gas put down less than 200whp, so it's definitely not from over powering them!

Apparently they're not made for high rpm, and that's what NA is all about...I just found that out the hard way...apparently I'm like the only one that didn't know that.

I guess it was cool of them to replace the rods, but it was blatantly their fault, and all they did was apologize, which I find kinda upsetting....it's like you crashing into someone elses car, and the insurance only paying for a very small part of it....besides, there is no shot in hell I will ever use an Eagle rod ever again, so I have to go sell them, just to get less than half what a set of crower rods will cost....

The whole thing really pissed me off....not even so much the fact that it cost me pretty much everything I got and then some, in order to fix it, but the down time really blows!!!!!

sorry to hear that happened. Trust me, I know all about downtimes. They really DO suck. Good luck on the new setup.

so they are sure it's a manufactoring defect and not an installation error?

I'm saying this because it's...unfortunate they wouldn't pay for everything if it were a manufactoring defect.

My ESP isn't functioning well lately, but I'm just going on what they told me....

and you're right, it's very unfortunate...but that seems to be my luck lately....

Oh well.....murphy's law strikes again!

to prove it was a manufacturer defect you'd have to literally test thousands of their rods...

to have 1 defect and blow a hole in a motor, well, albeit unfortuante, i do not think they'd cover the repair work

they were nice enough to send you a set of new rods, though, i'm not entirely sure your stance on eagle rods now...

this is why i do my own work. if he has in fact done the install himself, which we dont know, he could eliminate this possibility
ive only seen sucess with eagle.

They make these things for GSR/ITR... what do *they* consider "high" RPM?

Because, if there is a practical limit less than 10,000RPM there are at least two of us who want to know... I've still got mine in a box, but the JDM R is about to go back together and now is better (to find out) than next month!

Sorry about the damage...

I'd like to know what they consider "high" rpm also. I plan on revving to 9k w/ my eagle's. Eagle has sold thousands of rods since they've been around and i havent heard of many breaking like this. I think it just may have been a "lemon".

Are they ITR length rods? Or are you running a longer stroke?

That sucks about your motor. My friends GSR block had a hole in the exact spot, but he was using stock GSR rods all the way to 9k

There is an inherant risk when using aftermarket high performance parts, or using them in conjunction with parts above the limit of their design.

It isn't very practical for a company to warranty their product and any damage that may result from failure of said product. Just think how many times a company would be taken to court over a dispute of wheather or not a part failed because of manufacturing defect or installation error.

The fact that you have seen rare cases of companies replacing heads when CAMs break is only a testament to the good faith of that particular company, but they would have probably been within their right to just replace their part that failed, like is the case here.

That's funny I spun stock gsr rods to 9700, and the occasional 10k, and nothing ever happened to my stock rod??

Would anyone care to venture a maximum safe rpm for an eagle LS rod?
