I am heavily considering both of these head units, and for a while i wanted to go with the Eclipse but ever since seeing this Alpine, i have just been at a loss for words. I have also heard that the Eclipse Head units have been known to go bad after about a year. What do you guys think? Please some one tell me what they think is the better head unit.

I've owned 3 eclipse radios and they all broke, take that how you want but they were older models of about 2 or 3 years ago.

I'd love to have an Alpine 7998, but I HATE the XL face. Why'd they do that to such as beautiful HU (Feature and SQ wise. I don't like Alpine's asthetics either). Because of this, I'm going with the Eclipse 8053.

The number one comment on my 7998 is how readable it is in comparison to most HU's.

I give a damn about readability, I have a Clarion. You ever see how small the buttons are on those things?

I use the remote anyways.

I have owned a couple of clarions. The buttons are decoration only

Who needs them now that most hu's have remotes. I owned my clarions before the remote days

IMO the biggest difference between the units is the Eclipse's 8V pre-outs. Do they make a difference? Yes, but it's not nite and day.

I'd choose whichever one matched my interior, was cheaper, etc...

Nice system you've got planned there. Did you listen to the 12a yet? I just ordered the 15.

Either will be fine. Take the one that you think will work best for you. If you won't use the extra alpine features, then 8v preout of the eclipse could be nice.

I have heard test tones from soundillsuions.net from a video a guy with a 12a had. I have the top of the line altec lansing speakers, will never do the ed e12a.22 any justice, but it gave me a little taste. The sub looks real nice too. They are on back order till June 1st i hear. I think i am going to go with the Eclipse CD8443. And if i have any problems i will just have it taken care of under warranty. I am also thinking about getting a Pioneer EQ since i love them so much. What do you think?
