Default B16a + SC34 + Inline Pro + Spearco Water-Air Intercooler = GRINDAGE!

Yeah, so I figured, I've got the manifold, I've got the turbo... may as well do a test fit right?

HA!

Check it out.

Sooooo, I called up the good ole friend, Alan... "Dude, do you have a good wheel on your grinder?" "Yeah... Why?" "Can I borrow it?" "Not til you tell me it's to make the tubo fit on the Honda, and that's the ONLY reason you need it." "Yeah, That's what it's for... The turbo's too damn big." "Perfect. You're finally learning how to buy parts. Bigger is better. Come get it."

So I go get ye olde Black & Decker 90 degree angle grinder with a semi fresh soft metal disk. This thing was FUN.

Here's a taste.

Fun fun, huh?

Here's what I ended up having to do. Use the engine code pic above for comparison.

It's getting there....

And after a few hours cleanup and other stuff.... (it had gotten dark, sorry)

Now, I hope you enjoyed my little ex-po-say into a day int he life of me, but I'm not promising anything.

I'm still waiting on my motor mount to get back, and I need money so I can order my JimFab Traction bars, and a 92-95 Civic half size radiator so I can fit this beast. Also I need some cheese to pay the local shop for a DP fabrication.

FUN.

It's getting close, guys....

You shoulda stacked 15 exhaust manifold gaskets together.

Oh my god ! Did everyone need to do that ? I couldn't do it...
Why is that for ? turbo too big or manifold too short ?
This manifold is beautiful (inline pro...) did other people have trouble with it ? (the mani)

god that looks scary, unless that section next to the where the engine code is stamped on the block is thick steel all the way through, I'd be freaked out doing that.

Looks good Jody. I almost forgot what your engine bay looked like. He had to notch the block because he has the compressor clocked almost 180 degrees. With my inline pro mani and sc61 I didn't have cut anything.

btw Jody your traction bars will be here in about a week.

I just turned my turbo around the other way on my 5th gen (since i don't have AC),

but it looks like that's a 4th gen, so unless to converted to a 1/2 size rad, I know that the turbo the other way still wouln't work for him.

A nice half size radiator is all you need. A Fluidyne would work wonders and it's only half size. I guess all of us Civic guys get spoiled with all the room...

You won't be able to see it from 4 car length's back, where most people will be, dude.

Seriously, the pics make it look REALLY bad, it actually looks nicely polished, just alot of material removed. It's ONE bolt of 7 partially compromised, I don't see that making much strength difference of the block. I've seen worse with the use of a 4 bolt housing.

Anyway, I, of course, pulled all the A/C parts, and I think I'm going to buy a radiator core that's close to the same size as my old condenser core. It's 30" by 12" or more, easy. A radiator that big, tucked up in the radiator support where the condenser used to be may be the best solution for my space requirements. The Blue Silicone 90 angle coming off my compressor is probably going to interfere with any radiator I put on the passenger side, half size or not. If I moved it to the driver side, it might work, but I don't want more water hoses running along the crossmember.

We'll see.

It looks like it would have fit if it were clocked so that the compressor outlet was pointing down and the narrower part of the compressor was against the block. You have it pointing up, so obviously it puts the wider part of the compressor against the block and that's why you had to grind so much.

Ummmm, yeah... The fact that he runs an air/water intercooler may have something to do with the way the piping is routed

How close is that to cutting through the block?

For the record in case someone missed it, he had to grind that ONLY because of the way he clock the turbo. You will not need to do that if the turbo is clocked with the outlet facing downward. InlinePRO is the best thing you can buy to avoid from cutting your block.

BTW, that isnt the manifold I sold you. What did you do with it?

Do you have the pic of a "normal" install with inline manifold ?
I 'd like to put the inline manifold with a K26 or somethong more conventional. Looking for information before buying one.
