Default Is my limited-Slip Fried? -- Clicking sound

You guys were right diagnosing my throwout bearing problem. Lets see if youall can do 2 for 2.

About 500-700 miles after I got the throwout bearing fixed by acura(and got new comptech flywheel, and ACT clutch), I noticed a clicking sound.

It happens when I take off in first gear, when I shift to second, when I let off the gas hard, and sometimes when I make right hand turns.

It sounds kinda like taking a screwdriver and whacking it against a piece of metal. When I take off in first it give 1-3 clicks, the rest of the time it only gives one click. Also the sound comes from the passenger side of the car.

Any ideas of what it could be? My uneducated guess is the LSD, but I truly have no idea.

I would actually say your axle, but I haven't experieced one that clicked when going straight, only when turning, so it is possible the problem is inside the tranny.

ok this is a long shot, but if your R motor is jdm, maybe you have one of those super rare limited edition setups with the cusco lsd in it. those are known to make those sounds..

Check to see whether your engine is shifting/moving while you do all that. It may be your motor mounts are soft and your engine is riding a rodeo in there.

i have the same problem, i took it to acura it took them about 30 mins to find the cause, it was the bearing that supports the drive shaft on the left side can`t exactly remember the name. but it was covered under warr. considering i had less than 275 km left on it. it sounds like keys rattling. hope this helps

YES, this could be it! I've had this exact problem for a couple of months now and have had my car to the dealership countless times. It does sound just like keys rattling and like the poster of this topic states, it only happens upon take-off and letting hard off the gas (only sometimes in 2nd and 3rd) but mine is on the driver's side.

The dealership originally diagnosed it as a loose axle bolt, tightened it, sent me home and it started up again the next day. They have since re-checked the same bolt but say it can't go any tighter and now think it's the metal backing on my brake pads. Maybe I'll tell them about this bearing that supports the drive shaft and see what they think about that. I need an oil change anyway Thanks alot, itr1235, for your experience in the matter.

Thanks for everyone help.

If it is bearing that supports the drive shaft, do they have to take the trani apart to replace it? I'm just thinking if I can get free labor on a ATS FinalDrive install since they have the trani out anyway...

Replacing the support bearing shouldn't require removing the tranny, just pulling the shaft on that side.

Is there any way to test this bearing suport theory without taking anything apart? I have had the exact same symtoms as jond for about a year now.

yep! the guys and gals at the dealership where i take mine are awsome, they let me in the service bay whenever my car is having work done. they lifted my car off by the jacking points. reason for this is to have the wheels off the ground. they pushed up on the the L driveaxle close to the bearing and you can hear the noise. can be done at home with jack stand and a jack.
