buying a bike...need insurance?
i plan on buying a 2003 r6 in mid june. i was wondering wat if i need insurance to drive it off the lot . if so does it have to be fulll coverage? any help would be great..thanks
If you finance it, then the lien holder will require you to have full coverage. If you pay cash, then no.
Either way, brand new R6... yeah get some insurance.

hahahaha...you do not need full coverage to leave the lot...i just bought my 03 r6 two days ago and the dealer told me that if i wanna go ahead and take the bike home then i can...its my choice...i know that may sound weird but its the truth......late

Try taking out a personal loan, or buying it on a low interest credit card. You won't HAVE to have full coverage and you'll technically OWN the bike (the title will be sent to you, with your name on it).
The most expensive coverage on a motorcycle is comprehensive and collision, along with uninsured motorist. Comp will pay for the bike if it's stolen, collision will fix it if an accident is YOUR fault, uninsured motorist will fix it if it's the other person's fault and they don't have insurance.
See if somehow you can get on with USAA. It's a long shot, but I'm paying $536/year full coverage on a 2000 ZX-12R (28yr old, no tickets, licensed 4 years).

$3k?! That's robbery. I'm paying $600/year, full coverage, 24, two tickets (within past three years) through Geico, also. What kinda bike?</TD></TR></TABLE>
is it really robbery? were talking about a 2003 R6 vs a 8 yr old CBR f3.

When my friend sold his 94 Katana 750 for a '00 ZX-6R his insurence stayed the same. I know it is not an '03 but still.
Progressive is good.

yeah going from older 750 to newer 600..i can believe that. i think displacement is still a key factor when they formulate rates.

my boy just bought a 03 gsx1300r and walked out with no insurance.. oh and yes he financed it.. 210 a month... and didnt even get full coverage 3 days later after he got it... said it was paid off to the insurance company...
you can tell the insurance company that it's paid off, and they won't care. it is the lending institution that is concerned that the vehicle has physical damage coverage. they're concerned because in the event something happens to the bike where you are at fault, you have proper coverage to fix the bike.
