I'm in an argument with a friend of mine, I keep telling him that an SH can do 140 mph straight out of the factory he says it can't happen because there isn't enough horse power. Can someone give me the website of a reliable source so I can shut him up and put him in his place please

 

dunno bout a web site, but i hit 145 with intake/exhaust. now that i got headers its probably higher

 

i'd seriously like to know the top speed on a fifth gen stock, im always argueing with my auto tech teacher bout this

 

your friend knows squat. just to make a point, a car can have 500hp and have a top speed of 50mph. it's all in the gearing. my buddy has a 67 mustang pushing 400+hp. yet it can barely get over 90mph thanks to its 3 speed tranny and poor aerodynamics. just an example.

its a combination of power, gear ratios, and aerodynamics.... i know the 4th gen is gear-limited to 126mph, not sure aobut 5th

 

well ive had mine over 130 prolly bout 135-140ish dont know glanced for a flash kinda scary driving that fast id just like to know the definate top speed

 

i believe atleast on the dyno's the 5th tops out at around 153ish.. i don't know if anyone's done this on the street.

Mmmmmm.... I disagree, I got my 4th gen Si up to 135 bro

 

150mph on my 2001 prelude and I wasn't driving it was my friend. This was after the turbo, not sure if it made a different. I took it up to 135mph stock but ran out of road.

you had a super slow 4th gen. I've even had a 4th gen prelude S up to like, 130.


The 4th gen VTEC is gear limited to about 142-143 roughly. That's where I used to bounce it off the rev limiter. The Si, and the 5th gens are evidentally different.

I've supposedly hit around 160~165.

I'm actually aiming to see if I can get a land speed record set for fwd 4 cylinders with my lude. I just have to find what that record IS.

 

Topped out 4th gen Tranny at Racetrack, drafting a cobra kit car, doing around 140mph... 5th gen tranny is good for 150mph or so....

Don't trust your speedo, its very off at that speed.

 

I know that with the gearing, theoretically it could get to 140 and I believe it has enough horsepower to overcome the wind resistance, it would just take a lot of road to get that fast.

 

didn't trust my speedo... I was trusting the speedo of the Cobra I was outrunning.

 

i've got a 5th gen, only mods are intake + exhaust... i pegged the speedo at 150.. and i was still acceling..

 

Well I took it to past 240 KPH thats 140MPH at 3 am on the high way , no cars around so i know it can get up that fast (92 is 4WS vtec swap) at that speed the car feels like there is a cousion of air under it and the engine sounds like its making POP CORN but it can go that fast and and more although i don't know how much because both guages were barried to the max

 

I've read that 126mph is the gear limited top speed for a 4th gen prelude on at least 10 different sources, prolly more, and i'm almost sure its been on Honda literature. I agree the speedo is off at those speeds so maybe some people think they're goin faster than they are? But then again some of you seem to be judging by other sources. Who knows, maybe Honda underestimated? i just don't see why they would.

EDIT: Let me correct that... 127mph @6500 RPM... the manufacturer's top speed is listed at 130mph.

 

I did 150mph in my 97 Prelude back when I only had an intake
