Default engine bay looks like it was fresh out of factory

So finally after neglecting my engine bay for 2 years I went out and purchased a bottle of simple green degreaser 4.59 + tax at autozone. First I bagged my intake, distributor, and my alarm horn. Second I sprayed a soft mist of water throughout my entire engine bay till I felt every part was wet. Third I went spray crazy with the simple green, EVERY SPOT POSSIBLE (let it soak in 5-10mins) Forth I turned the hose on full blast directly to my engine bay. Fifth I sprayed tire foam everywhere. I want to thank Migs and Pat for the info.

I would have never imagined cleaning an engine bay MYSELF. In fear that I would ruin something. I only thought dealers were knowledgable enough and had the necessary tools to accomplish such a thing. Boy was I wrong. Thanks again guys

For all pix check here

due to the lighting my before pix do not appear to be severely squalid but up close in person it was a whole different story. Overall im lovin it

Looks Great! Been thinking of doing that myself. My before shot would look a lot like yours, not to dirty but not super clean.

Im curious if the tire cleaner left a "film" that would attract dirt and dust.

That's the best, getting everything cleaned up under the hood, now the trick is maintaining it

all I did was cover my intake filter, distributor, and alarm horn. I wet everything else including battery, alternator etc. Just make sure you soak up the big puddles with a towel, then apply tire foam (I used armorall tire foam). I let it sit for about 15 minutes, then started my engine. Everything worked out fine for me.

I read on several places that the ingredients in armor all actually will dry out rubber in the long run and should not be applied to hoses and such under the hood. I also read teh same thing in an article on team-integra.net and it makes sense... and team-integra suggests as an alternative to use water-based products to finish up.

think of (heat resistant) priming it and repainting it with some high temp paint? (after sanding off existing rust)
