Ok, so I was tired of the crappy lighting with these Denjis and HIDs are still too much for my wallet. So I had some free time and a spare 9006 bulb to play with. Guess what? It's possible to use this bulb. Here's a pic of the difference....


I think you can tell that the 9006 bulb is on the left and the crappy h3 bulb is on the right. I still can't believe that I drove for so long with such bad visibility

I will post up detailed instructions when I'm done with both headlamps if anyone is interested.

you guys are running h3s in your EGs? I've got H4s and like Ray Charles, I can't see ****! Is the H3 compatible with the stock headlight? I'm thinking of just getting some fogs...

 

nice work, if i can get a camera i'll try to post a how-to an oem hid retrofit onto denjis as well.

**** the stock headlights, the lowbeams are trash, there's nothing you can do about it, i got sick and tired of squinting.... hoping the pothole-of-doom wasnt 60feet ahead of me where my headlights couldn't even reach.

I wonder if you or if anybody could shed some light (no pun intended) on how to hook up an H3 HID kit to the stock H4 harness. I'm sure people have done HID conversions into projector headlights...can somebody please SHARE?

hmm to me it sounds like he saying that they are a direct fit in his first post, but now everyone seems to think that there has to be some fab.. Ill get a set tomorrow I have them at the shop and Ill see what the deal is. I just bought a digi cam, so maybe I can do a how-to.

Ok guys basically like someone said it's not that big of a deal. Note that these bulbs do not magically snap right in nor did I come up with some revolutionary bracket that can be made with parts from home depot. I simply had a spare Denji and a spare 9006 bulb and played around with it a little and it turned out that once I tinkered around with it it worked better than I expected. I did take some pics so I'll post them up right now...

Hope this works for everyone because these H3 bulbs really do suck.

 

Things I used:

2 paper clips
2 9006 bulbs
2 rubber headlight covers off of your OEM headlights
Some electrical connector plugs
Needle nose pliers
Dremel (or something to make the opening of the headlight a little bigger if needed)

Note: this install is for Denji headlights. I'm pretty sure the box said Jaguar Eyes but the headlights themselves say Denji on the glass. I have tried this on another brand too so with a little imagination it should work on most brands.

1. Pull the headlight and toss the H3 bulb into the street.

2. unscrew the original bracket (not the two wire pieces but the other side that they latched on to.)

3. Take a paper clip and straighten it out. use the needle nose pliers to curl the tip of one side so that the screw you took out can fit in. Then test fit the 9006 in. If it doesn't fit you may need to enlarge the opening a little with a dremel. *Make sure to hold it upside down so that the grinding dont get inside your projector.*



Make sure to keep the original headlight wire off to the side, you will need that

5. Form a bracket with the paper clip as best you can with some needle nose pliers. The better you conform it to the headlight the tighter the fit. Then towards the top of the clip bend some sort of bracket for the spring metal clips on the opposite side to latch on to.


6. Take the OEM rubber boot and cut out the center enough so that the back of the bulb will fit through.

7. You also may need to enlarge the hole that the wire comes through.



8. Throw the boot over the bulb and opening and connect that single wire to one side of the headlight bulb. the tab inside the bulb will be small but it should slide on pretty securely.


9. On the High beam side there is a small grounding tab that a fork style connector fits in perfectly. You need to squeeze the forks together just a bit. This will be a good grounding spot for the other tab on the bulb. You can use any metal area for a ground that is part of the metal frame of the headlight housing itself. (under a screw etc.)





10. I drilled a hole through the high beam plastic cap to make it somewhat clean. You can do whatever you want, just run that ground to the other tab on the 9006 bulb.


You may want to use some electrical tape and wrap all of your connections. I'm sure I could have done this better but it works very well. just plug in the headlight like you normally would and it should work fine. There are many ways of mounting the bulb in there as well. The biggest part is making sure it's secure and not loose. The OEM rubber boot is a really nice plus if you still have yours. Hope everything works out.
