Tie down hooks for those who tow Hondas.
Looks like the rear of the car. Any rubbing of anything important? I ask because they also offer a model with a forged ring. Much better than just throwing the hook in there.
Thanks.
added in edit: I ended up getting these. http://www.awdirect.com/awdire...d=110
I think that they will offer a bit more versatility. They are a couple of $s more than the plain hooks but also couple of $s cheaper than the ones with the ring.

it is the rear of the car.
the fronts are pulled straight forward from the front tow points.
no rubbing on the muffler/exhaust/lower rear ITR tie bar for stock ride height (the straps are X-ed in the rear)

Most definitely Thanks. I knew there had to be a better way.

It is... but after the tow last year to GingerMan (ITR Expo) I was tightening the straps at every stop.
This years tow to BeaverRun (ITR Expo) no loose straps.
The trailer I use is kinda short and the rear point winds up being a pull almost straight down.
Hooking to the spots in-front of the rear wheels = pulling back and down in the rear which IMO is much better and safer.

I wouldn't use it. On two different 86 3G Civic's, on one I ripped it out of the unibody, and on the other one which had a much less rusty tub cracked the floorpan in the spare tire well.
This looks to be a good solution.

Bringing this back from the dead....
You had any problems hooking the car to the trailer like this? There just isn't a good way to attach the G3 teg to a trailer on the rear.

The center hook is not really the place to tie down the car. There should be a tie down point on each of the rar frame rails-this is what we use with both the CRX and Prelude. I cannot say if the location that you are using is the best, only that what I'm using on the trailer works. BTW: you have the option of either tying down straight back (as I do) or doing the "X" method.
I forgot more about hondas then you will ever know....

I use these for the front tow eyes on my integra. I tried them in the rear but the angle/length of the tie down did not leave the car as secured as I wanted. Over large bumps I would watch the rear of my more way more that I like (I like to compress the suspension and not have the car move during travel)
I'm sure the rear tie down point works fine. It would work even better if you keep it really short or the angle closer to 90 (like they do when they shipped the car origianly).

for those who have problems finding a place to tie down in th rear of your honda's i offer a possible solution---
---run the tie downs through the spokes in the wheels. if you encounter anything so severe that it rips the wheels off the studs, you probably won't even remember the incident
. it also lets the suspension do it's work while towing and doesn't bind anything up.
if this is a bad idea someone tell me because i've been doing it this way for 2 years.

I do not like to tie through the wheel spokes because this puts unnecessary stress on the suspension and bushings when the straps are tightened. For this reason I will not tie down to the LCAs or other suspension parts because of the extra stress this puts on the arms and bushings.
My 1st gen CRX had these nice bolt on hooks in the rear chassis rails that were excellent places to attach straps and I would believe most Hondas have these hooks or have the tapped holes to attach them to or use the hooks as shown above.
I like having the car's suspension take up the vertical bumps while the straps take the front to rear movement throught the chassis.

May I interject (aks) a question?
When you leave the car free to float vertically, does it induce more unfavorable Transients in tongue weight over undulating terrain?
Scott, who has put his race kaa projects all on hold for now...gotta make the tow rig more high performance...wanna tow stabley at...uhm...100 mph!...while steering with my knee...and eating a bowl of Cap'n Crunch...and talking on the cell phone...and sneezing...

Personally, I want the car to move as little as possible. That's why I hook to the chassis. Hooking to the wheels or control arms still allows the car to bounce freely on its suspension. I'd rather it didn't bounce around.
I use the factory front tow hooks, and the "T" hooks mentioned at the top of this thread for the rear.
