Taking off the atts
I have a 99 sh and i am wondering if it is possible to remove the atts from the transmission and get diffrent axles: the reason i ask is because from what i read i paid more and got less. Considering atts does not like to be boosted
I am very interested in this as well. I have an SH also and would like to boost, if anyone has done this or knows about it, info would be greatly appreciated.
why bother with all that trouble???
either boost anyway and maybe atts will still work if so cool, if not who cares your car will still boost, the atts just wont work. saving the wieght isnt gonna be that big a deal unless you plan on stripping the whole car and racing it full time

Why you ask? Well because when the ATTS unit disables itself under boost it shudders, pulls to one side, and/or hesitates. Trust me when you're taking an exit ramp and it decides to pull to one side it becomes a "big deal" Also, if you get into f/i enough to move to a standalone it can't be controlled and therefore is useless...a traditional LSD can't be put into an SH tranny so you're stuck with an open differential along with the dead weight of the ATTS unit itself.
To answer the original poster: yes, it can be done...I've eliminated it on my '01 SH. It's really not that hard, don't believe the hype about base trannies not bolting to SH blocks and all the info that I've seen passed around...the tranny bolts to the SH block just fine. The only complication is that you need to fabricate an adapter plate for the base model intermediate shaft as the bolt pattern for the ATTS unit is different. I detailed the whole procedure on po.com a couple weeks back, here's a link to the pics: http://ian.clendaniel.net/gallery/noatts

If you're wondering if you can use Base model axles instead, the answer is no, cause you are going to have to get a base model block in order for the axle to sit in place. The ATTS unit is bolted to the block in which the inner shaft of the driverside axle is placed. If you don't want the atts unit to work anymore, just unplug it from its computer which sits beside the ECU
If you were wondering if the Base model tranny will work on an SH block, the answer is yes, cause this is what I did whenever I did my motor swap. The only problem I came across was that the driverside inner axle didn't bolt up to the block like it does on base models. I had a friend of mine, dad make a custom bracket for me....
