ok ...
my girlfriend has a turbo acura cl 2.2. when the turbo was first put on the car it melted a piston within two weeks. then we paid for a supposedly reputible shop to install custom arias pistons with a 9-1 compression ratio. after the install the car lost little bits of anti-freeze each day untill finally began to overheat slightly. we took the car back to the shop to figure out the problem.after the charged us nearly 100 dollars to replace the thermostat it turned out to be a blown headgasket! after much heated conversation the shop told me that they would do the headgasket for free as long as the head was in good shape. the car was running .3 bar with 440 injectors, fmu, inline pump, and s-afc. i spoke with the shops head sales man after the head was removed and sent to machine shop and he said nothing to make me worry ... now i ask the shop when the car will be done and the shop tells me the car had serious detonation and and the head is warped on the number three cylinmder and that the valves are burnt and the seats are badly damaged!! WTF?? is this possible at .3 bar with the SUPER rich break-in tuning that the car left the shop with?? i need some answers right away! please help me, i am so tired of being fucked over with this car. i need answers. plus... should we be held responible for this car if we toutched nothing on th car after it left the shop? (boost controller, afc) we followed break in instructions to a tee and did not even mess with the car untill we could affor to get it dyno tuned ... are we at fault?
please help

Looks like they fucked up and are now trying to cover their asses. If you followed everything religiously, and the only shop that did work, fucked up, it's their asses. Get a lawyer.

ok, i guess judging by the responses most of you guys dont care too much about my problem, but its ok i will elaborate a little more and tell you what the events of yesterday brought! first of all the shop is
Inline proformance 7958-B Cameron Brown Ct. Springfield, VA 22153 Ph: 703.644.1788 Fax: 703.644.2722
i spoke very heatedly with the owners of inline for quite awile yesterday afternoon and after many insulting comments coming my way from the owner, john lee, (ie. jackass, stupid idiot, *******) i eventually got nowhere. i would like to remind everyone that with 440 injectors 12-1 fmu, super afc, and inline pump the car melted a piston at 8.8-1 stock compression and stock pistons! i originally brought the car to inline pro to get low compression pistons not knowing that the car came stock with a compression ratio of 8.8-1. inline commenced to keep my car for 4 months to install just pistons and the final bottom line charge on just installing pistons was $4,400!!!! Mind you, i asked for a lowerd compression ratio also knowing that the car had blown up at an already low compression ratio of 8.8-1. inline, in there infinite wisdom, went against there own invoice which stated "arias low compression pistons" and put in pistons that actually raised the compression ratio to 9.0-1!! i know, i know, even the 9-1 compression pistons should be fine for any turbo motor, but keep in mind the car originally blew up at 8.8-1!! common sense would tell you it would probably need to be lowered a little more to accieve a good compression ratio for boost. that was poblem number one!
the second problem of the afternoon was, after they got the head back from the machine shop they tell me that the head has 4 burnt valves and was horribly warrped and needed a complete valve job and head milling! i take my head to the machine shop that does all of my machine work (Performance machine, springfield va, 703-440-0023) after extensivly looking over the head he tells me that, "the head is fine, if it was my head i would put on the car without a problem!!" WTF!?!? i take the head back to inline and all i get is more insults and backpedaling!! eventually i get them to agree to put a stock head gasket on the car for free and allow me to leave without paying for anything. all i can hope is that they dont mess up the head before they put it on the car! this has nothing to do with any of the inline mechanics!! i am vey close with many of the mechanics and they are awsome guys!! i would trust my car to most of them without a doubt as long as inline pro had no involvement! but this post is directly aimed at the ownership and sales people at inline! they were very very insulting and shady with me and not only was i *** raped on prices but i was treated with a very shady intent!
you guys can take this post how you like, i am just sharing my experience with a "very reputible" shop...

an fmu and 440's...?!? damn bet it was uber rich.
8.8:1 or even 9:1 should not be bad for boost at all... I would not worry as long as they can tune it decently.
blown headgeasket sounds fishy right after a 4400$ rebuild.
BTW ever figure out why it initially melted a piston... what was the timing like and how much boost is she tryin to push.

yeah it was really rich but with the afc it was tunable.
it left inline with there settings and with instructions not to toutch them untill it was broken in(1000 miles)
never figured out why it melted a piston initally. it was only running 6-7psi for the entire time it was turboed. the timing was retarded to 14deg. at idle.

Damn, those are the first problems I've heard from Inline Pro. I've heard of most people trusting everything about their cars to them. That sucks!
I say go consult and attorney, and see what they say. Seems to be your best option. SOrry I'm not much help.

That's why i believe we need to learn how to do our own, so we can blame it on no one but ourselves. I don't care how good a shop is something is always screwed and people are going to point. Hopefully everything works out for you I would be pissed as well. You would expect for the good shops to cover there ***'s. But...
Some people dont have time, tools, expirience, or the mechanical know-how to do it themselves.
Hmm......id say tuning was the problem. Some people r runnin 10:1 with high boost, but of course the tuneing is on the money.

This story confuses me. Did InlinePro do the initial work that caused the piston to melt?
Or did they get it after you f'd it up elsewhere? and you asked them to fix what had already been f'd up?

it was tuned by them when it left there posession with explicit instructrions not to toutch the afc untill they could get it in for dyno tuning in three weeks. the afc and the boost controller were NOT thoutched and it blew up again in just thirteen days!

from my experiences. even when a shop is reputable as inline is make sure they can do f and h series motors.
95% of even reputable shops around the country can't rebuild an f or h series motor.
sounds like a bitch though. it'll probably be tough trying to prove anything against them.

Dman that sounds like the problem. I remember a shop telling me a story of how the same thing happened. They were called in to fix a problem someone else did, He came all the way from oklahoma to texas, and thry would not touch it unless he signed a paper. Maybe if it was done right the first time the situation would be solved. Now i kinda see where inline is coming from because they were cleaning someone else's screw up. I'm not taking sides by the way, but i understand now. I see your and i see their's

So now it is working and free of charge? But you had to go through a huge hassle.
If it went down like you said I can see being pissed at the customer service, but I also know there are always 2 sides of the story.
But bottom line is everything working now?
