Made charge piping this weekend...pics inside
Hey- Well after a little research, I thought I was able to tackle the job of making new charge piping for my whip... I dont really care what it looks like right now, im just happy it fits the way i wanted it to. Im thinking of painting it, whatta you think?
here are some pics that show the piping and bends I used...
I decided to use the DRAG piece coming off of the intercooler, and then 2.5 from there on...

I think it will fit behind the bumper just fine... agree?

How many sections of pipe did it take you? Where did you get your piping from? And where did you get your flange for the blitz bov?

Lets see... from the T/B I used a piece of a U bend, then a straight piece I found at the local store, then a cut 90 degree bend.
After the 90 degree bend I used a coupling and connected it to a 45 degree, shot it down through the hole where it met another small section of a U bend and then finally the DRAG piping.
All in all I guess I used.... (1) 45 degree, (1) 90 degree, (1) U bend. I bought two U bends, but I think you can get away with using one U bend.
I got my piping from JCwhitney.com, and I re used the blitz flange from the drag kit. I put the flange too close to the pipe and had to trim the screws that held it down.

how long did it take you to do all that stuff and how much did you spend all together?</TD></TR></TABLE>
I forgot how much i spent... I think around 65 bucks for all the pipes (got some extra). I had to buy aluminum spool for the welder which was like 10 bucks... my buddies shop in baltimore welded it for me for free, i just brought him a 6 pack
I spent near an hour just cutting and fitting, seeing how it woud fit... and about another hour and a half watching him weld it, and trying to make the finished product look a little cleaner.
I just hafta get a new coupler for the connetion on the T/B cause mine is ghetto right now... theres a space around the pipe and the coupler is too big... you can see it on on of the pics

Do you have any pictures of the piping from the turbo to the intercooler? im trying to visualize where to cut the pipes i have.
im planning on doing the charge piping myself for my car too

I dont have any good pictures of the other side of the piping... but I do have this one, kinda shows from the turbo, down past the downpipe... Then past there its just another u bend to the other side of the intercooler.

yeh that would work too, but there is more possibility for leaks, and blowing those off during boost... and i didnt want to worry abotu having to rip off the front bumper if one of them came off.
also as you might notice, on one piece I have very little room for a hose clamp. Also those damn couplings are $$$$ and i got this welded for free.

Naw I wish I had a mig welder...That is mig welded though.... My buddy has a tire shop down in Baltimore and he has never done aluminum welding so he said he'd try it
.
I havent seen my car in a while either
... its giving me some problems... ticks very very very very loudly, I need a valve adjustment or just need to adjust the timing belt a little maybe?
Anyways I havent seen you either, hope to see you more when I get home form the summer!

I used a hacksaw and a vice.

actually if a valve adjustment doesnt work, you might want to see if your lost motion assys might be faulty.
a good way to test this is to listen to see if the ticking goes away at vtec, a timing belt might not give you a ticking sound.
