those speaker pods are impossible to find. i've pretty much come to the conclusion that my civic will always have 2 speakers up front, and nothing in the back. they're way overpriced when i do find them, and also tend to be the first thing to sell when a person is parting their car.

Not impossible to find. I got some reasonably priced from a guy selling his interior items. I will try and remember to take pics tommorow.
Sounds like a good opprotunity for a DIY project. All it really is, is a piece of metal with 2 big holes for speakers.
My camera is still charging. Ill probably have the pics up around 6pm... tokyo time hehe

Like I promised.
Right now I have one speaker crammed in each side and when I get around to buying another set im going to "dremel" the brackets so they will fit correctly. So pardon the ghetto install.
oh yeah I circled one of the point where it bolts up to

nice.
indeed...it very well could turn into a diy project.
maybe i'm not understanding something..but why are there 2 holes on each side? i thought it was for a total of 2 rear speakers, not 2 on each side.

I dunno they just came that way. More the merrier I guess. There is even a "Y" connector on the factory harness as well.

I'll tell you what I don't understand ... why are you guys worried about the speakers for the rear passengers?!?! .. do you ever sit back there? I know I don't ... that is why my rear speakers are unhooked. And I definitely wouldn't put 2 pairs of rear speakers in my car. Rear speakers suck for imaging ... when you go to a live concert do you turn your back to the band?!?! ... same principle in my eyes.
Just my $.02

You do know that there are cd's out there that are mixed in 5.1 surround instead of stereo. And like I said the more the merrier hehe.
I do see your point but 2 small speakers can only put out so much and when you have a car like mine with loud exhaust and alot of road noise from the suspension you need that extra oompf to keep you sane on prolonged drives

More speakers doesn't mean better sound. Its called buying quality components. You never need 2 speakers right next to each other when they do the same thing. Unless they are subwoofers. If you buy quality front speakers and rear speakers and get a nice amp to run them you won't need it, actually you might not even need rear speakers if you set it up right.

those are jdm rears... notice the rear seat back... plastic!

Its so much nicer having sound come from the back of the car as well. I got a pair of grills off of my friend and did an extremely ghetto install with some speakers I had lying around in my room, but it works. No rattles, next to no weight addition, and the sounds improved a lot.
Notice I didn't even take the time to line the speaker up with the grille.
I'll have to redo this with some bigger speakers in the near future but its fine for now.

If you guys cant find the gathers panels contact, http://www.passwordjdm.com bet they can get em at a decent price.
So in order for these mounts to work, you need a jdm civic or just the jdm rear interior panels? I noticed your Oh **** handle is on the left also.
The kits were available through Honda but were discontinued awhile back ago. However, you can still get the rear outside black covers only.
Honda Part #
83737-SR3-K00ZB for the Right side
83787-SR3-K00ZB for the left side
And be creative, make a custom mount kit for the speakers, I for one made 6X9 brackets for the boom boom sound......lol, that was gay, wasn't it.

If anyone local to me in CA has the rear speakers covers in black without the speaker bracket and grille, I'd be willing to trade you for my mounting kit and boston acoustics 5.25 coaxials. Im looking to ditch the rear speaker setup.
I just bought some for $30 and they're awesome. Nothing works better with 5.1 than rear speakers. Only thing I need is the plastic grille panels.
