Hehe. Ok.. THIS cat you goofs

Take off your cat and jam a screwdriver into the hole and hit it with a hammer. It's pretty hard at first but once it starts breaking, it's easy. After that, wash out the cat with watter and you can paint it if you want. Then reinstall it with a new gasket and some hondabond or whatever..
My 2 cents about this:
First of all I did this because I was bored, and I wanted to inspect my cat and make sure it wasn't clogged. Well it looked pretty damn dirty in there so I gutted it.
So what do I think? If you are OBD1 and you don't want to waste your money on a tespipe, DO IT. But do NOT do it if you live in a very emissions regulated state. I can get away with this in Washington.
Anyways, I didn't notice much, only top end, but it's better than before, I'd guestimate 3 hp. My Tanabe RM didn't get noticeably louder, thank god. I'm usually against this type of modification.. but I think it worked out well in my case.
BTW, I have a JDM ITR engine and I'm running a kenji p28.

I tried to do that **** with a hammer and a screw driver, that **** won't budge.
so i went to home depot and got me a big **** drill, and i drilled though the dam thing. job well done.

nice, i just did the same thing on sat, not by choice though, the damn ceramic stuff inside decided to break loose and start to rattle, i couldnt take it.
i used a big a$$ crow bar and just pounded away at it, cant say i really notice a difference power wise though, it is a little louder, and i can hear the air "wooshing" out of the pipe now

My roommate did his cat on Sunday.......then went for a test drive, went back to the garage, and had a rod knock
Oh well, his motor was tired, time for a rebuild.

So by doing this mod you aren't cleaning out carbon deposits and stuff but rather basing out the catalyzing stuff making it a straight pipe? I'm kinda confused.

This mod just allows more air to exit out of the exhaust. I think this is more of a straight pipe setup.

DO NOT hollow out the stock cat. For one, it only causes about 1-2lbs of extra backpressure which isnt bad. secondly, a hollowed stock cat will actually hurt performance. The empty cat will have flow stagnation with gasses just sitting around and it will kill your fow velocity resulting in a loss throughout the powerband.

I put my cat up against my patio, put a long piece of metal bar inside, stood over the cat and swung a little sledge hammer hitting the bar. It took awhile but it did the job. And for the people telling you not to do it, well what would you rather have, a clogged cat or a gutted cat. I did not feel like spending my money on a test pipe.

Exactly...
Loss of exhaust gas velocity=Loss of power

Is it a carsound?</TD></TR></TABLE>
yup, only about 6 months old
i dont know what to try next, i've tried both carsound and randomtech now, and dont really like either one
mine doesnt smell any different then when the cat was in, no rotten eggs here
i'll leave mine like this untill i can afford to do something, either straight pipe or another cat, but which one? anyone have any suggestions?
